The US economy definitely doesn’t, unless you’re enjoying the current price of things.

You’ll blow through that $2k, but the inflation it creates will be around long after.

Will never see a check, perhaps in the form of a credit on income taxes.

It's already being redistributed into gov't coffers.

A tax reduction would be nice but that won't happen. The money is not in your face enough the same way it would disappear in people's minds if it was just used to pay down the debt.

Based on his Truth I won't be getting anything anyway but I will pay in the form of inflation just like I did with the COVID checks.

Can you imagine the vape accessories and tattoos sold if this $2K thing goes through?

Estimates are that tariffs will bring in around $265B. $2K checks to everyone who makes less than $100K is about $600B. If you exclude children under 18 it lowers to a little more than $300B.

And that’s if the Supreme Court doesn’t reverse tariffs.

Or Trump doesn’t use it to pay for the Golden Dome, aid for Farmers, money for Venezuela or any of the other dozen things he said he would tariff funds for.

I'm not an expert but I've been thinking about the effects of a “tariff dividend” vs a stimulus check and I'm not sure the effects are the same. A stimulus check is new money created by the government, right? They borrow or deficit-spend to put fresh dollars into circulation. That naturally boosts demand and pushes prices up because there are suddenly more dollars chasing the same goods.

But a tariff dividend comes from taxes on imports, so the money has already been taken out of consumers’ pockets through higher prices. If the government later hands some of that back, is that really “stimulus,” or is it just moving the same dollars from one place to another?

It seems like one expands the money supply and the other just shuffles existing money around, but maybe I'm missing something?

I had the same question and ask the "econ" guy* I work with, and after a whole bunch of words not covered in macro, his answer was it will increase M1 and thus potentially drive more inflation.
