I’ve never understood the appeal of taking another sec coach from another sec school.

I’m not saying this because of the lane situation. if Deboer, Stark, drink, were in the same situation as lane I wouldn’t want them to come to Ole Miss. I would want to find a coach that is like a diamond in the rough. Maybe I’m too old school but I’d like to find a G5 coach and have him move up the coaching ladder and when he wins an sec championship or natty I’d have a sense of pride like yep we found him at Youngstown college when no one took a chance on him.

just because he spent time at FAU doesn't change that's exactly what lane was before he went to Ole Miss.

Well good because you will have the chance really soon.

That is a good attitude for a traditional 2nd-tier SEC team

Winning an NC with Lane would give a sense of pride. It's like winning one with Coach O. He's proven he can't do it anywhere else

The SEC is the most difficult Conference to Coach in. You want a successful Coach in the SEC. You get it? If not, read it again until you do.

Lane failed at USC and the Raiders too. He is a good offensive coach. But Ole Miss is his ceiling just like Mullen was at MSU. The bigger profile jobs aren’t for everyone.

It seldom works out all that good. Florida got Mullen from MSU.....Mullen is coaching at UNLV now. We took Dinardo from Vandy.....he got fired then a few years later ended up at Indiana. Auburn got Tuberville from Ole Miss....worked out .....sort of.

A lot of good coaches fail in the SEC. It’s a different level of intensity.

In the case of Kiffin, there are probably some diamonds in the rough out of conference that would be better but he’s got a higher floor based on his track record. Less chance of bombing than Napier or Sumerall etc.
I do think a lot of kiffin hype is because of his trolling personality more than his coaching acumen but he is a good player caller. If we poach a sec coach I wish we’d throw money at Heupel instead. Better coach with less baggage .

Well. LSU permanent opponents are A&M, ole miss, and Arky. Within that group IF LSU hires LK, they shoot to basically a tie with A&M with pretty high confidence. Ole miss would likely fall quite a bit at least for a little while or at least that game becomes much less competitive.
