College football's most-coveted coach has found a home at Ole Miss. But is Oxford enough?

In a time of great sensitivity here, where tensions are high and anxiety lingers — will he stay? will he go? — Kiffin isn’t scurrying into a bunker or disappearing down a hole. He is, after all, Lane — brutally honest, unabashedly open and heartedly welcoming to a reporter for an interview within his office, where, mid-discussion, he reminds himself aloud about “the job thing we’re not going to talk about,” he says with a smile, before, talking about it, at least for a bit.

But there really isn’t much to say, Kiffin says. He has never been happier or felt better about his life than he does right now. He hasn’t drank in nearly five years, rarely eats red meat, never eats bread, works out every single morning, watches his son throw touchdowns as a local high school quarterback and attends sorority events for his daughter at the school at which he coaches — all in a wholly unexpected place for a man who’s always craved the bright city lights and sunny beach communities. “It’s like this movie, an amazing movie,” he says. “What you thought you wanted and what you always pictured may not be what you eventually want when we get older and we change. We think this is, ‘We want more action and the city and things to do!’ Well, maybe it just all came together here.”

Maybe he’s changed. It appears that he has changed. Good for Lane.
But the above sure seems like a disaster waiting to happen IMO given his past. It’s like a recovering alcoholic hanging out at a bar on a Friday night.

The line ‘RESTORE glory to Ole Miss bothers me
How can he restore glory when ole Miss has been mediocre for all of their existence

Nothing’s going to surprise me. Stay or go.
I just know it’s a damn good time to be Lane Kiffin.

Oxford has never been nor will never be “enough”

ALL of their existence? ??
1959, 1960 & 1962 National Championships don’t count?

I think he has one more big move in him. Not sure if that's lsu or florida or he waits another year or two but my gut says ole miss isn't his last stop.
Maybe even makes a run at nfl again.

I say this as a BR native and LSU fan, but have you ever been to Oxford? I’d much rather live there over BR.

I don’t think there’s any chance he stays at Ole Miss. he gone.

Why won’t he sign an ole miss extension? People say things then they do other things.

I think the opposite. His fit is better at LSU and Florida than most major programs. If he stays at Ole Miss this cycle, that's his home.

Ole Miss vs LSU, but you gotta live somewhere. Granted, with that kind of money, he can live well anywhere.

This feels like damage control after yesterday to get things to calm down.

I doubt it - just based off timing. The interview occured Tuesday this week. An article like this was always scheduled to drop today before the Florida game.
What occured yesterday had no affect on this article as the interview was done and the article was always scheduled to drop today.

What happened yesterday with Kiffin?

Anyone who’s spent significant time in the 1 horse town called Oxford, knows it’s not the end of his Coaching journey. Not sure where he’ll end up, but it won’t be there.

Concur. I've been in BR since I enrolled at LSU in 1989. Sure, parts of BR are great. But literally over 50% of the city is off-limits once the sun sets, and you still need to keep your head on a swivel in that part of town when the sun is up.
I grew up in Hattiesburg, and Oxford has a nice, antiquated Southern charm to it.
