Les Miles was a candidate because he was defeating the giant that was Oklohoma while greatly outclassed in talent, pretty much the exact opposite of Drink

also Les was not atop the list of choices when we hired him

Drink is not coming in on the heels of a saban built national champion roster. Miles left 2 or 3 on the table

Do you realize the the Les Miles era resulted in the winningest decade of LSU football.

I'd take a decade of winning and competing for championships right now.

I’m in no way advocating for the guy, but he won at App St and he wins at Mizz. Only players worth speaking of are Brady Cook, Dominic Lovett, Cody Schrader, Mekhi Wingo and Luther Burden. Not a bad record considering limited talent (product of geography). Got Burden, a coveted 5*, to stay at home. He’s been close on some huge upsets. Close losses to Bama. Should’ve beaten Ga in 2022. Anyway, he’s be reunited with Baker. Smooth transition there. Seems very DiNardo-ish on the hire. Yeah, he kinda looks like a televangelist or country music singer Radney Foster. Sorta dorky, but has worked under some decent coaches (as far as offense goes)

Saban built a foundation that is still here today

LSU brand grew to what it is now out of the roots of what he did while here. The next coach will have that brand to work with, jut like Kelly, just like O, Just like Miles

The foundation that made LSU the brand that it is can't be used to tarnish a coach's success

And even in the down years toward the end he was still bringing in blue chip talent. The game just passed him by.

Come again? Saban left in 2004. By 2007, the talent was likely 50/50. By 2011, it was ALL Miles.

If we could hire the equivalent of 2005 Les Miles right now, that would be an A or A+ outcome. We should hope to be so lucky.
