The federal jobs and inflation reports for October may never get calculated and released after a record-length government shutdown froze economic data collection, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Wednesday.

In a briefing with reporters, Leavitt said the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), which was mothballed for most of the shutdown, may not be able to replace missing data that was set to come out during the standoff.

The shutdown, which began Oct. 1 and is expected to end as soon as Wednesday, prevented the BLS from releasing the September and October jobs reports.

BLS was briefly reopened to assemble the September consumer price index (CPI) inflation report, which is essential to calculating the annual cost-of-living adjustment for federal benefits, on a delayed schedule. The October CPI report was set to be released Thursday, but Leavitt said Wednesday it may never come out at all.

“The Democrats may have permanently damaged the Federal Statistical system with October CPI and jobs reports likely never being released,” Leavitt said. “All of that economic data released will be permanently impaired, leaving our policymakers at the [Federal Reserve] flying blind at a critical period.”

quote:

The data freeze came at a particularly bad time for Fed officials and other policymakers, given the rising concern among the American public about rising prices and fading job gains.

The Federal Reserve cut interest rates at its most recent policy meeting in October, but Fed Chair Jerome Powell warned that another December rate cut was “far from” a foregone conclusion. Powell said he and his Fed colleagues are divided both over the current state of the economy and whether its baseline interest rate range is appropriate for it.

I’m sick of this blame shite all around. Both sides could have sat down with a functioning president and ironed out a solution long before now but neither side would cared enough to do it.

Release the Epstein Files now.

I truly don’t think republicans realize the amount of damage this administration has done to the party in just under a year.

You just saw the beginning in Virginia, NY, and NJ.

All they have to do is not blame and shut up. And all the way down from the commander in chief of the greatest country that has ever existed to the fricking incompetent press secretary have been unable to trudge along without looking like embarrassments to the USA.

fricking clowns. All of these people. Clowns.

Edit - Downvote away. Just watch what happens in the midterms.

I almost think Trump is in on it. Either that or he actually has dementia. He might be the democrats best friend.

Trump playing chess. Can’t be accused of manipulating them if you never have them made to begin with.

Given the current direction the mid-terms are going to be UGLY and some of the GOP other than the couch humper who stands no chance of winning wants to be president. There is a very real possibility that between now and next November DJT finds out what the term lame duck means and he will certainly do so starting around December of 2027....it happens when Presidents have a good deal of support most of the time....unless something changes DJT will only have the very base of the GOP who have proven to care naught for ballots that do not have DJT on them....

Going all in on the Unified Executive flood the zone theory from Stephen Miller while controlling both chambers of Congress was an absolutely monumental mistake to everyone but the Poli Board regulars. There was no reason to try to shove 4 years of a presidency into 6 months. I worry a bad GOP showing in the mid-terms sets up a rough 2028. Trump won all the swing states, but 2 or 3 go slightly differently and we have Kamala in the WH right now.

Don't disagree.

Lol wut. There's nothing there with whatever is left that hasn't been released, clearly, at this point. Also what's that have to do with anything?

Then no harm in releasing them then, right? If there wasn’t anything there then it would have been out in the open by now. The rich and powerful shouldn’t walk just because they are rich and powerful, we should all agree on this.

We’ve got people going to prison for sharing child porn on the internet, these perverts were trafficking young girls for their own sick pleasure and are walking around scot free. If you don’t believe that’s an issue then I don’t know what to say to you.

The shutdown is over and the petition to move forward on releasing the files is signed and ready to go so that justice can be done for the victims of this heinous crime.

Virginia’s current governor is a Republican with a pretty decent approval rating. While the state is leaning blue for national elections, it’s still in play for Republicans at the state and local levels.
