What other 80s Baton Rouge kids remember this? Baseball and football camps during the summer time. We roasted in the Jimmy Swagger fields with our matching shirts. Went inside for a quick lunch at mid day, then finished a moderately dehydrating afternoon session before being picked up by our parents. There was no parent "watching" back then.

My son played football at Bob Morgan in 2000 when he was in 3rd grade. I thought they did a good job with the little guys.

The best part though was watching the five-year-olds get after it. They had a miniature football field lined out and those kids had a blast.
And the best part of that was when they scored, they all had to do their dance, and the kids who got scored on would get pissed and sometimes get revenge on the spot. It was hilarious. Those kids were serious.

Had a kid play BMA baseball from like 07 -2010 ... by far had the best setup for 5 yr old baseball... each week kids were assigned to a random 4 person team...each field would have 3 teams, infielders, outfielders and batters.... then would play a 2 or 3 inning game... coaches actually pitched (no tees).. an at bat was until you hit the ball, sometimes the coach would have to get by the kids side and soft toss it... they cleared the bases after 3 outs... fields were set up to where a "good" hitter could hit an HR over the fence... really covered all the bases for young kids to learn the game and have fun ... Learned how to hit and learned how to play defense/get outs

I participated in Bob Morgan Football from 89 - 93.

It was fun and helped with the basics. He was a good guy.

I remember it as a kid growing up in Lafayette. They had red VW microbuses as their transport and they'd go to every kid's house and pick them up and take them to practice. You could hear that air cooled VW engine from a few blocks away. Good memories.

We probably played with/against each other. I still have some games on VHS, been meaning to throw it on youtube to preserve history.

Main memories were being assigned a different team each week. They'd give us a paper and you'd immediately look for your name to see if your friends were on your team that week. Also remember thinking how cool the young coaches were. There was a linebacker type named Jeremy who was an early bloomer and would wreck shop. He definitely made a few kids cry

Quick story about Bob...

Back around 2000 I was working with a company looking for sponsorship opportunities. We met with Bob and was brainstorming on ways to sponsor his camps. Threw out the idea of suppling water bottles to his players with our logo on it. His exact words were "Why would the kids drink water out of a bottle when they can drink out of the water hose?"

He wasn't wrong. Good old guy.

I played tackle football there in the 90’s. It taught me so much that kids don’t get anymore.

You were forced to play every position on the field. Every week you were put on a new team and were given a designated position to play that week

Did those baseball camps behind Jefferson Baptist as a kid in the 90s. I think my parents still have all my red home run ribbons

I played for Bob Morgan in Lafayette in the mid 70’s. Rode in that very same Red VW van. I remember a Coach Louie being my favorite coach.

Man, these camps were so much fun. Baseball mornings and basketball afternoons. A lot of life lessons learned there from Bob and Randy Maum. Great coaches.
