He was making $2M at ULL and then jumped to $7.2M at Florida...he was hired in 2022.

Meanwhile, Heupel was paid $2.3M at UCF and then jumped to $4M at Tennessee...he was hired in 2021. Heupel's annual salary eventually jumped to $9M after the 2022 season.

I don't think LSU was seriously looking at Napier so not sure why Florida overspent.

I personally think Napier wanted to be here and was hoping they called him. I think Florida didnt want to take any chances and gave him an offer he couldn't refuse.

His agent probably told them ULL was going to up him to $4 to stay and then LSU was offering $6 and he was going to take it so Florida offered $7 to get him to come.

Probably all bullshite but he was a hot candidate in 2022

Because some other moronic university would have paid him that much.

Drinkwitz salary being $9Mil made me think. If we wanted him, we’d have to pay more - let’s say $10Mil.

LSU was paying BK roughly $10Mil.

Could LSU go after someone like an Eric Morris, who is currently making about $1.5Mil, and offer him $4.5Mil? That’s tripling his salary, you’d think he’d take it.

How would that even look? Good, bad, neither?

The 2021 coaching cycle was ginormous.

In early 2021, Tennessee was pretty much only dealing with Texas (Steve Sarkisian) and Notre Dame (Marcus Freeman) after Auburn had hired Bryan Harsin in December.

But by the end of that year, post-Mullen Florida was suddenly competing with LSU (Brian Kelly), Oklahoma (Brent Venables), USC (Lincoln Riley), Miami (Mario Cristobal), Oregon (Dan Lanning), and others.

Napier was in high demand due to his success at Louisiana, and he had coaching-tree ties with Alabama and Clemson, both of which were a fixture in the CFP back in that era.

Florida wanted to signal that they were making a significant investment within that landscape, but it probably couldn't have come at a worse time.

Because he had a good agent and tried to use local LSU media to lobby for him a job at LSU despite them having 0 interest.

If Florida or LSU want Kiffin you are looking at almost double that. Kiffin will likely want around 14 million. It sounds insane. Double in 3 years for Florida if they pay Kiffin.

Who is going to blink and say that’s too much? LOL, If nothing else it’s an interesting study of if any teams are going to slow down at all. Not looking if Kiffin is worth $14 million, but who is going to pay it and will anybody pull out? It’s quite a time and these coaches are definitely getting top dollar.

I’d hire Napier at a contract I could get out of way before I’d pay Eli fricking Drinkwitz 10 mil a year.

He was definitely a hot name at that time. But also a risk.
