Do you find yourself getting more emotional as you age?

Most of my adult life, I was like what I'd guess would be a typical man. I rarely cried - at most, I'd get choked up or my eyes might get a little wet.
The past year, however, something has changed. I find myself shedding tears much more easily. A sad song, a glance at on old photo, or a sentimental story posted on here may be enough to set me off.
Recently, we had a pet get sick and eventually pass away. It wrecked me. I cried so much, I had to start carrying a handkerchief for a while. I've lost pets before, and it always sucks, but my reaction is not normal and it kind of scares me.
Has anyone found themselves getting more emotional as they age? Is it sort of chemical imbalance in th brain? Or am I just going crazy?

I usually only tear up when introducing myself in meetings

Less emotional as I age.
I'm kinda in my "strike a match" phase.

Not really. I am less emotional. Not sure why.

That has to be an all-time top 10 post on this board. And credit to the guy who told the story on himself.

So you hit menopause?
How long you been transitioning?
/Real men are cyborgs when it comes to emotion.

Not to get too philosophical, but I once heard that laughter and crying are the opposite of what we believe them to be.
That is to say, when we laugh at something, it's done so in cruelty and shows our internal state of negativity.
Whereas when we cry, it is an expression of empathy and compassion showing our ability to be good.
This is why when we are overwhelmed with happiness, we don't laugh...we cry tears of joy.

My kids did it to me some. Maybe it’s a new level of empathy.

Nope. Not much bothers me for some reason. Stopped giving a shite. Never did antidepressants. It came naturally lol

Yes, I have definitely become more emotional as i age, but I am not sure if the cause is aging or the buildup of emotional trauma i have experienced in the last few years. Faking your way through the breakdowns to be the center of strength for your family takes a toll that I didn't realize before.

Not really. Pretty much feel like I’ve stayed the same.
I’ve held it together this week since my Grandmother passed on Saturday but I’m going to be a wreck the second I see my dad.

I wouldn't say I am more or less emotional, its just directed in a different place I guess.
LSU gets their arse kicked in football and has a shitshow of a program = Used to care a lot and would affect my mood, don't really care anymore.
My daughter does some mundane task = Used to laugh at parents, now fawn over her and love every second.
So for me its more the direction my emotions. Maybe not relevant to this conversation, but that's me

Less for me. I experienced some tough losses earlier in life and now I sort of expect to lose those I love. I’m not depressed, bitter or angry, it’s more like just it is what it is and for those who are Christians I look forward to seeing them again one day.

Maybe lower testosterone higher estrogen causes this.

Yes.
I think aging opens up a sentimentality gear as a result of just living out life and understanding how brief it really is -- along with un-loosing our innate male stoicism and discipline needed to persevere.
