LSU should have taken that when they could. That would at least have relieved them $10M...

Have we learned exactly what it is that LSU is claiming against Kelly?

They’ll settle for like 38m

This isn’t a big deal like this board thinks. Just two parties meeting in the middle

What incentive would LSU have to pay up-front $43m versus the contracted $800k/mo til 2031?

None.

That’s why the final settlement will be about $35m

A lot of our fans on this board don’t understand present value. LSU will only pay less than the PV. Anything equal or greater than the PV LSU will simply continue paying the $800k/mo.

They are going to settle. If you are Kelly you have to sue for leverage in negotiations. They will come to a number.

LSU doesn't have that laying around to give out. That's why they offered the $30m in two installments.

I'm so tired of lsu fans being a bunch of pussies over money that is not even ours or affecting us. Brian Kelly is a fricking a-hole that was stealing his pay check, checked the frick out, was obviously a fricking alcoholic, acted like an a-hole in press conferences, hardly ever had his team prepared accordingly nor actually coached jack fricking shite in games. frick him. If there's shite to rub on his face, rub it all on his fricking face in court. frick his coaching reputation forever.

While making LSU look like a bunch of clowns to the nation and potential future coaching hires.

No offense but I find it amazing the percentage of grown adults that don’t understand $53 million today is not the same value as $53 million paid monthly for the next 6 years. There’s probably a million things I should know that I don’t but this one is pretty simple.

Wrong. $43MM upfront and no offset isn’t as good as the current payout over the next 5 years. There’s a time value of money, plus if BK goes to work elsewhere every dollar he earns is $1 less to pay him.

Sauces say it’s not the affair that’s doing him in. It’s the fact that he’s a very selfish lover. That’s where they’re going to get him.

A lot of our fans on this board don’t understand present value. LSU will only pay less than the PV. Anything equal or greater than the PV LSU will simply continue paying the $800k/mo.

I posted this in another thread, but approximate PV of the buyout at various annualized rates of return:

4%: $47.2 million
6%: $44.5 million
8%: $42.4 million
10%: $40.1 million
12%: $38.3 million

You could argue that $43m is a lot closer to PV than $35m. Of course there’s also value associated with the elimination of offsets/duty to mitigate.

Your point about the PV isn’t wrong though.. contrary to popular belief, this is basically a zero-sum game. There aren’t really any win/win settlements here.

You have to explain it to them using the example of taking the lower lump sum amount if they win the lottery. They speak power ball language.

How often do fired coaches have to sue their former school for their buyout? This feels unprecedented.
