...why throw such crazy amounts of money at them? Why play a guy like Kiffin the money that it would take to get him to leave Ole Miss?

Agreed. Hires should be a 3 year deal, max. Produce or its on to the next roll of the dice.

if the cheap guy lost, you'd say "why aren't we spending money on a good coach!!???"

I think the model of having a "head coach" is quite antiquated.

I agree, i think they should just use a different volunteer each week for free

This, coming from the UGA fan with the highest paid coach.

Imagine UGA under paying Kirby and letting another program pick him up.

Smart wasn't the highest-paid coach until he won two championships.

Florida would rather win the press conference than be serious about winning.

We just had a coach who came for money, how did that work out.Get a coach who wants to be here who is driven to be the best.DONT let these agents play play you to get raises at their current schools.

Values for coaches are set by a combination of the market and their current contract.

Value is set by what someone is willing to pay.

Hire someone to sit on the sideline and scroll on this site. We’ll have a game thread and a coach thread where you can go post playcalls, formations, substitutions, etc.
Use the money you saved by not hiring a coach for NIL.

And what somebody is willing to accept. If LSU wants a coach in demand, the contract will reflect the value set by what the market is willing to pay.

The middle ground is to do your homework and make the best hire you can at a good price/contract for the program. Both things can be taken into consideration.

Huge contracts with buyouts are a gamble; so, gamble on an up and comer and use that money stuff that isn't such a gamble.

I don't think anyone has a problem with winners getting paid. It's the guarantees that pay BK and Jimbo tens of millions for failure that we find obscene.

It's the only way you get coaches to leave. Kelly would have never left ND if LSU just matched his salary and length. Schools have to woo coaches away with either more money or longer terms.

So, is LSU better off for hiring BK at such a price, or would it have been any worse off by hiring someone for much less money?

Hindsight is always 20/20. LSU went out and bought a coach from a storied program that has the most wins for an active coach. No one saw Kelly leaving ND. It looked like a pretty safe bet that Kelly could come in and right the ship that O left sinking like the titanic. Which he did but other things were suboptimal. In a very short time the game passed Kelly by. The SEC gauntlet and NIL were the final nail in his coffin.
