Have you ever had a large buck come out to corn?

In my experience it seems like only doe and young bucks come out to feed at corn. Is this a common sentiment?

That’s is a common sentiment, but it’s usually from hunters who have very few mature bucks where they hunt. Same with food plots.
A lot depends on how you feed. If you refill the feeder and pull camera cards every few days since September, you’ll have left alot of scent there. A mature deer won’t like that. Broadcasting down a lane from a spreader is a better idea.

Every mature buck on our property daylights multiple times over corn post rut. Probably 2:1 get killed then over chasing/checking.

Only on camera pics. Never while sitting over corn with a weapon.

I haven’t sat over a corn pile in a very long time but the Louisiana deer hunters page is littered with good bucks laying dead in a corn pile with a hunter smoking a cig

Very rare for a buck over 3yrs of age to in my experience. If so usually late season post rut.

Deer will always prefer hand corn over deer feeder from my experience. My place in South Texas the deer will hit the corn I put on the roads before the feeder then work their way to the feeder once the road corn is gone.

Part of that could be because they don’t have to walk as far though

I have tested this in East Texas on a property I hunt there. It’s very rare that I will see a buck on the feeder but if I put out a pipe feeder or hand corn one or two always show up within a day or two.

Yes its a thing. Rut is undefeated. Well we know whats really undefeated.

I have an 8pt im after that twice Ive been in the stand in the last 2 weeks when he was coming in, got hung up steps away from corn then backed off and slipped out but never spooked.

This is a timely post. One of my sons just showed me a photo of a nice wide 8pt at his best hunting spot after seeing only spikes and does for days. Now, if he shows again is the question.

I have one 600lb feeder on my property and it’s placed near the center of the tract. All my neighbors feed religiously. With the 600lb hopper, I am able to fill it up and it last a few months, to keep disturbance low.

With that said, I feed corn to inventory the herd through cameras. I know the bucks only show up at night, I get that. I also like having a cheat code to dust a few nanny’s throughout the year, whether for me or my kids. If I see a mature buck at my feeder, he followed a doe there during the rut.

I have other stands set up to play the wind and hunt bucks.

Are you hunting them? Or trying to figure out what’s on your property to get pics?

Hunting mature bucks over a feeder is a poor decision and waste of time unless you have a frick ton of time and huge acreage.

They are going to be sage and not want to step out into the open during daylight unless it’s early season. You are better off hunting them on the trails to the feed than waiting for them to feed at the feeder.

Most places feeders are just a small portion of their diet. So you are trying to catch them during hunting hours getting a snack basically.

Rice bran will bring bucks in much better than corn.

Not in my area for some reason, it’s last thing they eat.

I came to post the only big ones I've shot in LA over feed were eating rice bran.

But I've seen what you're talking about, some places they just don't touch it.

I have seen several large bucks coming out to eat the corn I put out in my yard. But they will only come out at night.

I killed a 5yr old that scored 152" at a feeder at 4:30 in the afternoon.

I think it has more to do with pressure and not the corn or feeder
