European style socialism (though not the socialism American leftists think it is) works in small, homogenous, wealthy countries where the average citizen contributes mightily and everyone is pulling in the same direction. Switzerland is the size of Mississippi. If Mississippi were its own sovereign nation full of a homogenous group of people with common western values and work ethic, it's a lot easier to make socialism work. It also helps that another country (i.e., America) would subsidize our socialist healthcare like we Americans currently do. Another thing that helps it to work is you have neighboring homogenous countries who've common, similar western values as you to trade with.

As much as leftists proclaim the wonders of socialism in Nordic countries, they are not socialist by leftist standards. Denmark is far from a socialist planned economy. Denmark is a market economy."

Comparing those small Muslim countries and small, once-homogenous white European western countries the size of Mississippi who are as much (more, even) market economies as they are socialist to America and American cities like New York is comparing apples to oranges, which is what Mamdani and his NPC voters are doing.
