A federal judge on Thursday ordered the Trump administration to pay full SNAP benefits for November by Friday, rejecting the administration’s plan to partially fund that food stamp program for 42 million Americans.
“People have gone without for too long,” Judge Jack McConnell said during a hearing in U.S. District Court in Rhode Island as he issued the order.
The order came after plaintiffs in the case urged him to reject the administration’s proposed plan.
Just don't see how he has this authority. You can't make someone spend money that isn't there.

If Congress is the one to tax and has the power of the purse then how can he do it unilaterally?
Unless he can just Executive order it from some fund?

Strange. I don't recall seeing Jack McConnell on the ballot.

Feelings decisions don’t count.

This judge is taking over the legislative and executive branches.

So the judicial branch is ordering the executive branch to perform a legislative branch function? Ok.

That's been the running theme of lower court rulings on anything dealing with Trump administration decisions.

I would literally tell the judge to eat shat to his face.

Judge has no authority to order payments has to be Congress…right?…

Yea, cause he said so... I love how people are UP in arms about Non-working people getting free benefits in a government shutdown. Nevermind, the people actually working not getting paid, nevermind the people defending you not getting paid, no its the parasites we are worried about. And they are the supposed Socialists? Don't they know that in a socialist society they wouldn't be lacking benefits, they will be shot?

Can the judge just open the federal government and be done?

What statute gives him this authority?

How can this idiot judge not realize that you cannot use a $6 billion contingency fund to pay $8 billion in benefits. The math just doesn't work.

He doesn't.
And now that the elections are over, Trump can appeal.

Just from the article, the Judge was speaking like a politician, not a neutral decider of the law.

"I've seen the Courts ruling. Now let me see them enforce it."

They do this on purpose. They're trying to set a precedent where the president doesn't act on what the court orders him to so when Democrats are in charge, they won't comply with a judge's order and say remember that time Trump didn't?
It's broken, it's all broken, and that's what Democrats want.
