Not sure if you know this, but when you promote a position coach to a top HC job, do not need to throw money at him.

I wouldn't throw the bank at him but I wouldn't hate the hire. But I would hate the hire if we "threw the bank" at him. He should be able to be had with a lesser contract.

However, I don't see him coming here for whatever reason.

He's going to be a HC sooner than later but I'm surprised he hasn't been a coordinator yet.
Makes me wonder why....

He's still learning at Ohio St.

He was OC in 2023, demoted to Co-OC in 2024 b/c he wasn't quite ready yet, promoted back to OC in 2025 and seems to be doing ok against massively subpar competition.

I think he needs some more experience before he would be able to successfully take the reigns at a top tier program.

A good landing spot would be Memphis if Silverfield leaves to take a job at a P4. It would allow him to start making inroads in the south and let him cut his chops as a HC at a successful school that is willing to put up cash and may end up in a P4 conference in the coming years.

Is he just a product of having great talent to work with?

It certainly helps that Ohio State has been able to pluck Florida and Texas but dude is clutch. Only 38 as well...
