You can blame Brett Favre for the Hallman hire.

I was in school at LSU at that time, and let’s just say that wasn’t the heyday of LSU football. You could get tickets to games for $5 and the stadium was still empty!

Please tell me it was $85K divided over 5 years and not $85K a year.

Even $17K a year would be too much, but I would understand that.

Yep different days of LSU football. You could pull up to campus an hour before the game, park right next to the stadium, break out a box of Popeyes chicken for the tailgate, throw the football in the parking lot for 30 min, then go into the game and watch LSU play. Crazy what the whole thing became since 2000.

You could basically walk into TS unimpeded to a half empty stadium, but had to plan your way into tickets for the PMAC. Different times for sure.

The current HC salary arms race began at LSU and was started by Nick Saban and Jimmy Sexton.

Plan? I have never not been able get tickets to LSU basketball and I have been going to games since the early 80’s.

I was at school at that time too. It was bad. It was bad. For those on here who don't know how bad it was, here is one example. In 1991 we played Vandy at home. I was in the student section. We were up by 2 with about 1:00 left and Vandy had the ball inside our 10. All they needed was a FG to win. They were letting the clock run and just running up the middle. On 3rd down they ran it again and was met at the line of scrimmage at the 1 by an LSU defender, they fumbled and we returned it past midfield. I thought the student section was going to storm the field. That's how bad it was.

I started LSU in the fall of 89, Shaq’s frosh year and CJ’s sophomore year. As a student, you definitely needed to coordinate with fellow students to get tickets for your group. I have no reason to bullshite you. My friends and I shared a dorm at Kirby Smith and the RA’s would throw jungle juice parties, but I guess that didn’t happen either.

As a student, I had to sleep in a tent on the southeast ramp of the P-Mac for 4 nights to go see LSU and Shaq vs Duke and Laettner. Yes, we had to plan. And baseball regionals weren't easy to come by either.

A guy in my law school section had some sort of connection to athletics. He talked the powers into letting the law students be a buffer zone between the younger students and the older paying fans. It was a blocked off section in a prime spot

It was 90K a year actually, but there were additional monies given to him.....around 150K a year extra.

I was at the Auburn game in 1994 on the sidelines just away from the team. I always felt for Hallman that game. Because the passes were not his call. Lynn Amedee was calling those plays. After the first pick 6 Hallman told Amedee " Don't fricking throw, we got this game" Amedee ignored him.

I remember Phil Bennett after the game just dumbstruck......"what the frick?????" He would not talk to Amedee for weeks after that. Hallman knew it was over that night.
