just can't see us getting a headliner coach

they're all making big money already and are in their groove. why would kiffin leave Ole Miss? in this new era it appears he can compete and possibly win a NC there. Saban? just don't see him coming at age 74. he would be gambling on his legacy as well. Sure, i'd love to have one of them, or even one of the other superstars, just sayin' I don't see it.
It looks like we have to take a chance on an up and comer. if they fill most of the boxes - drive, ambition, love of football, etc, we need to make sure they are not a know it all. they will need help and mentoring, and they will need the attitude that it is a good thing to get help.

LSU is still going to offer a large contract with a lot of incentives. The only difference is going to be the length of the deal. It’s not going to be a 10 year deal like we have Burger King, try more like a 5 year deal

What did you think was going to happen?
This new system of college football erases most of the advantages LSU had in the old system.
Hell, Kelly wouldn't have come if he would have had a clearer view of what was happening. He was much better off at Notre Dame.
It's still a good job but it's nowhere near the job it was 10 or 15 years ago.
The posts here are already ridiculous but it's nothing compared to what they will look like in 2 months.
Delusions will make way for panic.

Landry just said we're not offering that.
If you believe him, we can't afford Lane.
If you don't believe him ... why would you come here?

We just had one of those... maybe LSU doesn't need one to be successful.

Kiffin is already making $9 million with potential for more in incentives.
You think Ole Miss is going to let Kiffin walk over a few million dollars per year? Kiffin will leverage his position as the hottest current name and use it to get anything he wants from Ole Miss. More salary, better staff, more NIL. Anything he wants.
He has a better job now from his perspective. Ole Miss has the hottest name as their coach already. People think they will let him walk?
Use your heads people.

Ok, but Landry can't tell private investors how to spend their money
Verge said he has approval to go get whoever they want no matter the cost, and he said the governors comments aren't going to stop them

It was just a base number, they could go up from there

For Ole Miss to sustain NC aspirations, the coach there has to punch up constantly. You're not punching up at LSU from a resource, facility, brand, and prestige perspective. All things status quo, LSU is a significantly better job than Ole Miss.
That said, I am not convinced LSU is a better job than Florida. I think they are both top tier jobs (even with this week for LSU). Both are in fertile recruiting ground, have good budgets for assistants, are willing to consistently spend on NIL, and have a history of multiple coaches winning national championships.
In 2 weeks, people will forget about this week for LSU and the job will again be considered the best available opening unless Sark goes to the Titans and then Texas will probably be considered the best opening.

Kiffin could still himself more like a Kirby at UGA if he was at LSU.
It depends how Kiffin sees the LSU job. I would love to have an elite coach with LSU's resources.

3 out of 4 last HCs=Nattys in the last 20 years. No other in state opponent. Obviously we have the boosters, fans and $$. State feeds the NFL with players. We will get a headliner.

I’ll never know what it’s like to make that kind of money, but once you’re already earning that much, does an extra $1–2 million a year really make a noticeable difference in your lifestyle?
Especially if you’re already in a good situation...would it really be worth starting over and rebuilding a new program? I can understand smaller-time coaches jumping at a big payday, but for those already making top-tier money, it probably only happens if they’re looking for a change.

Not after we started acting like Louisiana again

We get that Sphat guy from San Francisco on board with additional NIL money and throw $13M a year at Lane with extra incentives and he's coming.
He'd need a year to settle in and LSU would be on auto pilot for as long as he's here.
I honestly believe Lane Kiffin is going to come to LSU in December. They lose out in the first round of the playoffs and he gets hungrier after coming so close to a title but losing out because of the Ole Miss talent black hole. He'll look at LSU, our offer, and see trophies.

Ole miss is never winning a natty. That plus a lot more $$ may change some minds.

Do they really need a 'splash' hire? BK was probably the biggest name LSu could have gotten in the last search and it didn't work out.
Saban and Miles might have been coaching in big conferences but other than Sabans last season at Michigan State nothing would scream out 'future national championship coach' for either coach.
I'm not saying LSU should go after a high school coaches but if they feel like a coordinator is the right guy it shouldn't be viewed as a failed search/hire.

I agree with you. I never set my expectations there.

The last 3 NC winning HCs were not headliners
The headliner we did get got fired and didn’t win anything
