As an LSU alum, I care about one thing

The reinstatement of the out of state tuition waiver for children of alumni.
This TOPS-eligibility first agenda from LSU has hurt the quality of student and multigenerational LSU alumni are sending their kids elsewhere.
I have a good friend His daughter is a high school senior. He called admission to inquire about some things for her. The student worker who answered his call cursed at him.
He called TAF and alumni and canceled all giving. The Director of Admission has yet to call him back. It’s been a month.

I have seen better Directors of Admission on the Quad.

What are the details of the waiver? I need a backstory so I can determine my level of outrage.

you want to send a kid to the LSU area?

LSU will be in lost mode for several years.

Up until a few years ago, LSU waived 90 percent of the out of state portion of tuition for children of alumni. Most of the SEC does this. It promotes giving and keeping families co netted to LSU.
One day, they just dropped it to $1000. They want more TOPS and Pell money.
Meanwhile, Sanders signed a bill in Arkansas that allows U Ark to waive out of state for ANY student in a border state with a 24 ACT. Ole Miss and State give generous scholarships to Louisiana kids.
You know what is happening in Arkansas and Mississippi? Growth and jobs and leaving Louisiana behind.

There used to be a Bengal Legacy scholarship for out of state legacy students. I think it was F.King who did away with them.

It’s my observation that LSU is trying to attract as many out of state students as they can cause it costs more in tuition. So it’s not surprising that they cut any discounts to out of state tuition. They’re in maximize profits mode, regardless of the damage it does.

I can’t understand why any out-of-state parent would ever want to send their kid to this DEI dumpster fire of a university. it seems any State would have a better flagship university than LSU at this point in time.
I’m an alum and for years I was proud to be from LSU. DEI has turned it into a complete fricking joke.

Oklahoma reciprocates on tuition with all the states that it borders; Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado and New Mexico.
Except Texas.
That OU/ Texas rivalry game? The hate is real. They both refuse to pass in-state tuition or discounted tuition to students from each state.

TOPS destroyed this state with watered down requirements. Everyone isn’t college material. That’s ok.

I got a big part of Out-of-State waived for me when I went to LSU because of my parents. Now I have a 12 year old, we live in Tennessee, and she wants to go to LSU but it will be hard if there isn’t an out-of-state break reinstated. UT Knoxville seems to be the best state school option for us

LSU is just a business now. All they care about is $ now. Short term thinking.

LSU has done zero to improve education. They are lazer focused on enrolling as many kids as possible at the highest tuition price possible. That degree is being devalued like the dollar.

It’s pretty sad, but there’s no chance at all that my daughter will attend LSU. That school (and this state) is on such a downward trajectory that I doubt we’ll recognize either 10 years from now.
