How much did Brian Kelly being from Boston play into not being accepted by fans?

Now that BK’s officially out, I’ve been thinking — did he ever really fit in down here? From day one, that fake southern accent thing rubbed people the wrong way. He’s a Boston/Notre Dame guy trying to lead a program built on Louisiana grit, and it always felt like he was... visiting, not belonging.

None of that matters. If he would have won, everyone would have been happy.

It’s not about being from Boston.

Everyone hates the guy. ND fans, LSU fan, and I’m sure Cincinnati fans. He’s inauthentic, unlikable and doesn’t win enough to overcome the former two qualities.

Working your arse off at your job has nothing to do with where you’re from. By all accounts, Kelly was lazy at ND and lazy at LSU. He didn’t want to put in the work required to be an elite coach or have an elite program.

0%. We don't care where you are from. We care that you embrace the state of Louisiana, our flagship institution, and give it everything you've got to win here.

And when you come here, don't run off the people that make this place special and replace them with guys that are only here for the money or promotion prospects.

Saban is from West Virginia. He never tried to act like he was from the south. He won conference and national championships and he was well liked when he was here.

Could care less from where he was from. I didn’t accept him because of the 2022 Special Teams, opening game issues and that pathetic defense in 2023.

True, but the fact that his teams couldn't beat their way out of a wet paper bag made it easier to hate him due to his liberal a-hole Boston ways.

The worst thing about his introductory speech at the PMAC wasn't the fake accent, it's what he said, which should have been a huge red flag: "I haven't even won all MY games yet...." He was never about LSU, or the team, it was always about Brian Kelly. That is his problem.

Nobody cares where he's from. If he'd bought into LSU and won, put tough resilient teams on the field and competed, he'd still be here. Instead he checked out and blamed everyone else for the team's performance, then showed up at his press conferences and gaslit everyone while being as condescending as possible.

This whole "where you're from" nonsense is so overblown. Embrace Louisiana and Louisiana will embrace you.

Saban is from West Virginia

Emeril Lagasse is from fricking Portugal and he is the face of Creole food.

He is not from Boston, Massachusetts, but not Boston.

Similar to the New Orleans/Louisiana thing.

I think it had little to do. Plenty of good coaches in every state that coach in states they are not from.

BK just was not the guy for the job here, some things don't work out.

Kelly spent the vast majority of his adult life in the Upper Midwest. His prickness is no doubt a DNA hereditary flaw

Nobody cares where he’s from. The guy was just a dick and did not get results. That’s all there is to it.

LSU erected a statue outside its baseball stadium of a Jew from Miami.

Heck, they even named the field after him.

It comes down to winning, and if you're not winning, you'd better make a lot of friends who have your back when things aren't going well. Kelly didn't do that.
