Landry wants to make himself look good for re-election. If he hires a bad football coach, do you think LSU fans, who primarily voted for him, will re-elect him? No. He’s going to make a good hire.

But he's a politician. So even if he doesn't care about LSU, surely he realizes that if he ruins LSU football, he's never getting elected in LA again. Not to mention the economic fallout for BR and the state.

Tuberville was a lousy football coach but I must admit a better coach than he has been a senator. On some issues, I have heard him speak on, it is like he hasn't even read the US Constitution. But I remember when he was NOT coaching he was an part time color guy...all star games and some such. He was just as incompetent in those also.
