The Texas Supreme Court has ruled that state judges may decline to perform weddings, including same-sex marriages, based on religious belief. Critics say the move could erode public confidence in the impartiality of the courts and chip away at the practical reach of marriage equality in Texas.
The order, issued Friday, adds a single but sweeping line to Canon 4 of the Texas Code of Judicial Conduct: “It is not a violation of these canons for a judge to publicly refrain from performing a wedding ceremony based upon a sincerely held religious belief.”
The amendment, signed by all nine justices of the all-Republican court, took immediate effect. The justices ordered it to be published in the Texas Bar Journal and the Texas Register.

Good and logical outcome. I would love it if same-sex marriage was banned entirely, though. Marriage was instituted by God for a man and a woman to join together.

I know one who doesn't do them.
His calendar is always miraculously full on gay wedding days.

Like thats gonna help me out, instead of firing corrupt political fukups.
Not that I'm against it but it wont affect me one bit.
Seems like political theater. And I'm a person that thinks that's a sin, but it's not gonna improve my life.

I’m in favor of this. Judge shouldn’t be forced to perform ceremonies that violate their religious principles – especially marriages that are based on one of the most flawed and fraudulent Supreme Court opinions to ever be handed down.
Having said that, any judge who refuses to perform such marriage should almost necessarily be forced to recuse himself/herself in same-sex divorces or cases involving same-sex issues.

What about two men adopting a couple of kids? Putting on fake titties and breast feeding the babies.
Normal? or Fukdup.
Even if you're not a Christian, you should know some things are abnormal as fuk.

Gay people have every right to be as miserable in monogamy as straight people do.

It's like saying you are more worried about your floor being broken then the termites in your floor.
If you win on culture, then you can change the country.
If you lose on culture, they/them will change the country on you.

God did create Adam and Eve. We do know that if homosexuality were normal there would only be one generation.
If homosexuals wish to cohabitate with one another and have their union acknowledged by the state, just call it something else. Noah is still pissed about the rainbow!!

Maybe not directly, but it'll certainly have some positive effects & improvements on culture. If we win the culture war our kids, grandkids & future generations will be better for it.

Even if that violates the law?
You think a judge should hold his subjective religious belief over the law? Where does THAT end?

They should have to recuse themselves from any case that involves the law

Marriage and domestic relations are usually governed at the state level. Does Texas have a law on the books providing for gay marriage? If so, it’s pretty wild to allow a judge to opt out of applying a law because of their personal convictions.

This was passed so it will go to SCOTUS and Obergefell will go bye-bye.

Well, since Obergfell was based in part on Loving, should that be overturned, too?
A SCOTUS ruling on this would not overturn Obergfell; it would either allow some judges to refuse, but others wouldn’t.

A common sense ruling. Gay “marriage” is an abomination. No society will withstand that kind of decay.
