Firing Scott Woodward would be Dumb

You want to see LSU athletics as a whole fall in the dumpster fast? Fire the dude who was born here, is an alum, and knows all the movers and shakers. Fire the guy who had the balls to go hire Kim Mulkey. Fire the guy who went and hired Jay Johnson. Fire the guy who gives his coaches all the resources they need, because he truly just wants to see LSU be the best athletic program in the country. Because he loves LSU, not simply because it's his job.
I love how everyone points at the BK hiring and buyout as the sole cause for him needing to get let go, too slow to realize that it was one of the biggest hires in CFB history, and was honestly unprecedented. Do I love his buyout terms? Hell no, he needs be checked on that, but to fire the man over that when his good outweighs the bad so severely is just the dumbest, most Facebook shite ever.
He took a shot, he missed on Jimbo and Kelly, but do not let your hindsight bias prevent you from seeing that both hires were big gets at the time, and you have to give those kinds of contracts to get those kinds of guys. The grass isn’t always greener; in fact, in this case, it will not be greener. He is widely regarded as one the, if not the, best ADs in the country. But hey, let’s fire him.
Go argue with a wall.

Scott Woodward is EXACTLY who we need as AD at LSU.
Hope he remains our AD for a long time.
Yes the BK deal deserves criticism, but I want our AD taking those kinds of shots and then hopefully learning lessons after failed shots

He will likely be a part of LSU in some capacity but the Basketball and footbally deal the biggest revenue sports that holds LSU together have not gone as planned
I really like Scott- I know he loves LSU
but he may have lost his job as AD in all of this shake up
Change can be good, it can be great
we probably need it really bad

It's got to be just emotional/drunk/irrational angry reactions by many calling for his head. There's no business on earth where every hire works out. I get the dollars involved and all that, but it's all relative. He's also hired 2 other coaches that have resulted in 3 national titles between them in 3 years.

Doesn’t the board and the President approve contracts?

Landry versus Woody retaining his AD position is the new struggle.
I'll use an OT adage that is often used, "You got what you voted for."

I agree with this. I’m fine with him swinging for the fences. Sometimes you strike out.
You “fire Woodward!” people be careful what you wish for. The ole boy from McNeese becomes president and brings over the McNeese AD, both puppets for Jethro Landry—and we’ll be back to when Cusamano ran the LSU athletic program from the back of Phil’s Oyster Bar in New Orleans. Hell, the head football coach at LSU could be a good-ole-boy crony hire.
Everyone is all excited but we are in a dangerous position. It wouldn’t take much with these politicians in the governor’s mansion and on the BOS to plummet LSU football back to a decade or more of the dark ages with an Auburn-like 3 or 4 bad coaching hires in a row.
Firing Scott Woodward would be a mistake.

He’s created a giant mess in the two revenue generating sports and the new arena is already marred with a scandal.

$800k a month doesn’t come anywhere close to bankrupting the LSU athletic department. We didn’t have to scramble for any up front cash at all.
Is it ideal to pay it? No of course not, but we were smart to set it up the way we did
Look at Kentucky… they’re stuck and in a bad place because they gonna owe Stoops $30million in cash within 60 days
quote:
Per the terms of Stoops contract, he would be owed 75% of his remaining salary in one lump sum payment within 60 days of being fired. If he were fired on Dec. 1, that would equate to just less than $38 million.
According to the Centre Daily Times and NOLA.com, the buyouts owed Franklin and Kelly will be paid out in monthly installments through 2031. Both those contracts also specify the amount the school owes the fired coach will be reduced by his salary at his next coaching job, while there is no offset language in Stoops’ contract.
Even the largest buyout ever paid to fire a college football coach — $76 million from Texas A&M to Jimbo Fisher in 2023 — only included a $19.2 million up-front payment due within 60 days. A&M will play Fisher the remaining obligation in annual payments of $7.2 million per year through 2031. There has never been a buyout paid to fire a college coach as the one owed Stoops that was required to be paid in one lump sum.

Matt Moscona explained it today. We're getting a new president & he'll hire his own guy as the AD. Woodward is probably gone.

Neither of those hires matter in the slightest.
LSU could win every women’s basketball championship until the end of time and the AD would still have to find a way to get out of that team’s yearly budget deficit.
Baseball locally means more, but other than SELA college baseball is relatively the same as women’s basketball. It does not move the needle financially, and no one on a national level cares.
ADs are measured by their fundraising efforts & how much money they can make for the university. Paying a women’s basketball coach whatever Mulkey makes is ignorant considering how unprofitable that “sport” is. Frankly, same with college baseball.
