ESPN wanted to reunite SVP and Russillo for a show to replace Around The Horn

Russillo ended up going to Barstool so that plan fell through. ESPN still considering putting SVP on at the old ATH timeslot.

ESPN president of content Burke Magnus confirmed Van Pelt’s candidacy to The Athletic and revealed his original intention to reunite him with popular podcaster and ex-ESPNer Ryen Russillo.
Van Pelt and Russillo amassed a loyal following as ESPN Radio partners from 2012-15, but a wrench was thrown into Magnus’ reunion plan when Russillo announced in August that he was leaving The Ringer to launch a new venture with Barstool Sports.
“That was a bit of a selfish concept by me, because I was such a huge fan of those two when they were together years ago,” Magnus said. “It just so happened that Ryen was exploring his future on a similar timeline. He ended up doing something different.”
Still, Magnus views Van Pelt as a prime candidate to fill the 5 p.m. ET time slot between “NFL Live” and “Pardon the Interruption.”
Other names on that short list include Peter Schrager and Brian Windhorst, according to the report.

Ryen was a part time employee for a couple of years while cohosting the biggest radio show on their network. I don’t blame the guy for being bitter

A standalone Windhorst show would be the worst-rated program in the history of ESPN.

Just blow it all to hell and put Keith Olberman back on a show. It'll be a disaster, but all they want is social media hits. Disney ultimate parlay.

Put SVP and Ryan Clark together. They could focus on breaking fake news stories.

SVP and Russillo were great because they didn't just talk sports. They walked so PMT could run. Neither of them would work on a show like that just throwing out hot takes.

I used to drive 6+ hours a day as an IT guy for a couple of years. I listened to ESPN/NFL Radio all day. I really liked ESPNs lineup of Mike and Mike, Colin Cowherd, SVP and Rusillo, and then it went to crap.
Lebetard was terrible. I started switching to NPR.
