If I were in charge at PSU he would probably be the hire.

I'd rather have James Franklin as my coach than Hartline

Damn. That’s a smart thought process for them.

OSU will give him the extension of a lifetime. He’s the reason why they’ve had so much success at the WR position.

Won’t matter. Not HC at a great program.

Brian Hartline has been a ludicrous WR coach. The dude has a stable of WR’s year in and year out. Not sure about a move direct to head coach since he’s only been OC a couple of years. It’s a gamble, but if I were going to gamble it would be on him.

This is the route I believe LSU will end up going. When you fire a successful coach who can't get you over the hump you likely won't get a more successful coach. You will have to either get a smaller school guy or a hotshot assistant coach who will have some learning pains but has the potential to take you to a higher level.

That would be a good hire for them. He has a really good reputation as a recruiter and WR seem to love him.

I hope not for selfish reasons.

That's a big arse stage for someone with such little experience. Risky, but could be great.

I can't believe PSU isn't going all in on Rhule.

With Matt Rhule you know your ceiling. Honestly, I don't even think Rhule is better than Franklin. So, I can understand why they may go this route.

OC at a big program vs head coach at a big program. Even if it doesn't work out he could get another great OC job down the line. Look at Dennis Allen

I'd argue you don't know your ceiling because he's never had the talent/program to get there. You do know your floor though and that's a guy that can build the shite out of a program. He's done masterful jobs at Temple and Baylor, bringing them out despair, to real relevancy, and has Nebraska on the right track.

I think he's a great coach who has never been somewhere with major program resources.

If I'm PSU, not sure I would hire a guy who, if he succeeded, would definitely jump to Ohio State if/when that job became available

Yeah, this hire would make a lot of sense. Is there any interest in retaining Knowles?

That PSU job is a tier 2 job nationally. People listen to these pundits who don't know shite. But, that's a tier 2 job. It's to Franklin's credit he got them on the cusp of elite status. With that said, PSU isn't about to pull a guy who is a head coach at a tier 1 job.
