Urban Meyer says Jeff Landry's reported role in Kelly firing is 'alarm' for LSU candidates

Former Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer is not a fan of Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry's reported involvement in LSU's firing of Brian Kelly.
On "The Triple Option" podcast, hosted by commentator Rob Stone, Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram and Meyer, the former head coach called out the reported involvement Landry had in the decision.
"The way that the governor of the state of Louisiana was involved," Meyer said. "You can credit the writer and all of that later, Rob."
One of the writers who reported on Landry's presence in the decision was The Advocate's Wilson Alexander. On the night of the decision, Alexander reported Landry held discussions throughout the day about Kelly's buyout and his future with the program. Sources told Wilson Landry was "heavily involved" in the talks about Kelly at the governor's mansion.
LSU is still in the process of finding its next full-time president.
"If this really took place in the governor's mansion, and if the governor and other non-football people make a decision, as a coach, that's an alarm," Meyer said. "The alarm just went off, saying, 'Wait a minute. Really? Did that really happen?' Because first of all, we don't know until it comes out.
"But I did make a call to a very strong Republican, a strong friend I've known for quite a while. He is knee-deep into New Orleans and the state of Louisiana, and he said (Landry's involvement in the decision to fire Kelly) happened. And I just said, why would he ... Are the streets safe in New Orleans? Is the infrastructure set? Has the Governor met budget? I'd imagine there's a lot on (Landry's) plate, and now it's kind of hiring and firing coaches at their state institution."
Meyer has been a name loosely mentioned as a candidate to become the Tigers' next coach. BetOnline had Meyer at +2500 odds to become the next leader of LSU football.

If Jeff Landry had anything to do with getting the decision across the finish line then well done Jeff Landry

I don't believe ANYTHING Urban Meyers says. He got out of town (Florida) because he didn't want to "face the music" of Hernandez (TE) being involved in gang related crimes, including murder. Suddenly had health issues? Please.

Urban is right.
This is why we need to get the President in place, make a decision on the AD, and then move away from Landry having direct effect on the LSU coaching search. I know it would be "his people" making the decision, but him being directly involved is not a good look.

Not that he was a realistic option in the first place, but I assume Meyer can be taken off the potential hire list lol.
I don't disagree with what he's saying, but honestly that would only matter to established coaches in good jobs already who you really have to woo to come here (like Kiffin for example).
99% of coaches would jump at the opportunity to be the head coach at LSU regardless of the Governor being involved.

Spoken like someone who has zero clue about how things go in the state of Louisiana.

.....and therefore closer to the truth than many may believe.

He’s just trying to get Lane to Florida.

Being a state university, wasn't it his role to kind of step in for the university president role for things like this when we don't have a permanent president? that was my understanding of the logic of why he was involved from what people have said. If so, then it's normal just probably doesn't happen that often. If that is not how it works given no president and being a state university then it is a bad look. Louisiana politicians from years past don't have the best reputations around. We did get Tiger Stadium out of a dorm project though.

JBE would be doing the same thing and I'd still have no issue with it.

Sounds like Urban wants in and to scare off the other candidates.

More alarming than Urban fingering a coed in a bar?

I'm sure they had to present him with the numbers and the info about the donor money they had lined up to pay the buyout and he gave a final approval in place of having a university president but I doubt he straight up was the one to say fire him.
Now he is the type to try and take credit for the firing because it is a popular decision with a majority of voters.

The only reason he was involved was because of the lack of President. CUM frick off kindly and disrespectfully
