Question for those with Kiffin as top choice

His results at Ole Miss last year, with the roster he had, would you still want to hire him at LSU if your were looking at that as your last evaluation point?
Don't let recency bias win out, missing the playoffs with the roster he had last year would not go well at LSU... Plus, his name will come with a very high price tag.

Forget ancient history. This year, Ole Miss should be in the SEC Championship game. Those two teams will definitely get a playoff spot. Ole Miss has four remaining games, all against unranked teams.

His roster was ranked 20th last year. What exactly are you talking about?

If you are looking for a coach without a flaw you're a moron.

Seriously? Not sure how those rankings take into account transfers, but 8 players were selected in the 2025 NFL Draft, making the most in program's history.
DT - Walter Nolen
QB - Jaxson Dart
WR - Tre Harris
CB - Trey Amos
DE - Princely Umanmielen
WR - Jordan Watkins
LB - Chris Paul Jr.

Lane kiffin lost to Brian Kelly with Jaxon Dart.
Then he barely beat Brian Kelly at home this year despite one of the worst coached games I've ever seen at LSU

Yes, Seriously. It is full roster talent. Depth wins championships.
He has gotten more out of Ole Miss than anyone in modern times. This year was supposed to be a rebuild. He has developed a D2 QB into a legit SEC QB and they are playing above their talent level.
But, they will not win a national championship at Ole Miss. The roster is always in the 20's.
The champion comes from a team in the Top 10 every year this century except Michigan in 2023 at 14.
For comparison, LSU is consistently in the Top 10 and often Top 5 regardless of who was coaching the team.
These 2nd tier teams can win games and maybe have a run, but they are not going to win the national championship. They don't have the depth to compete over a full season.

He is winning 10 games a year at ole miss, and the defense is usually the issue. He is adapting a but more to his 4th down decisions as well. His defense this year will keep them from making a deep run in the playoffs, but i still think id take him. I dont care about the money. It never seems to be an issue

I really don’t think we’d be any better off with Kiffin than BK.
His record in big games and conference road games is pretty bad.
Would be the worst choice? Absolutely not, but he’s a risk that will come with a huge price tag.

Yep. He may never get any better than he is right now. He could get here and not like something or somebody and not be able to just “let it go.”
He’s got a certain charm, and he’s funny. But he’s weird, too. He could start chasing pussy again. Lotta things could go wrong with him.

Scott Woodward needs to watch his back. You know what you're talking about.
There's no way you were alive for DiNardo's final two years.

I would've been a toddler. But yea that was an abysmal performance. The 2 point conversion. The 2 RB carries in the 1st half. The 14 passing attempts into 8 man coverage. The TO before the half that allowed OM to score again. There was a lot there

Exactly. There’s some myth going around the Internet right now that, despite Ole Miss being Ole Miss, they have had top-tier rosters for all of Kiffin‘s tenure.
They’ve been great, elite even by OM standards, but the “LSU beat them with inferior talent so Kiffin sucks” narrative is absolute fantasy BS.

Yes, I want a coach that competes every year and will make sure at least one side of the all is Elite (preferably offense). What would happen if we had elite HS recruiting every year and one of the best portal evaluators ever? What if you had a coach who was exceptional at rallying the donor base and making the most of the schools resources? A lot of things about our program would become way way way better immediately with Kiffin.

Lost to Napier as well

Would you still be saying he barely beat BK at home this year if they take the walk in touchdown instead of falling down at the end? What about Haulcy punching out the fumble at the goaline? Thats 14 points right there.
LSU was dominated and should’ve lost by 17+.

His roster was good by ole Miss standards. But not national championship standards.
Had they retained Judkins then maybe I could see a beef.

the ability to build a program is the #1 metric in the leadership search test... i worked for a executive search firm and it is massive... the turnaround includes so many metrics... like culture, recruiting, so many things in "turning it around..."
and many times, you have to be an expert on one side of the ball... being a CEO is out....

Spot on.
LSU stayed in games this year despite the terrible coaching because we have a talent and depth advantage (except at OL) against OM and Vandy.
Then we faced A&M and their talent is on par with us, and their coaching is light years ahead of Kelly and Co. They played like they should and kicked our tails.
No one really pays close attention to full rosters and how it impacts a season and who wins championships.
