I've seen a TON of love for Sumrall lately. He's certainly a good coach, but he's been a head coach for 4 years. If you want to take a shot, he's not the one to take.

This program is balancing on the edge right now. Another failed hire could push you even further down the SEC ladder, so you can't afford to take a dangerous shot like this.

My pick, even with his concerns, is Lane. At the very least, he'd have us in the playoffs, I'm sure of that, but his culture would be much better than what we have currently. He's probably the most obvious fit in a while, and he'd win.

While he might not be a natty-level coach (I certainly think he COULD win one here) he's pretty safe and would have us good with a good culture again.

Just my two cents

He wanted to be here in 2021 and if we can come up with the BK money I assure you, Lane will be no problem.

Doesn't hurt that Austin Thomas is already pushing for him and he holds a lot of weight in that department.

If Ole Miss does something in the playoffs....i mean he cant leave right? It just feels like he wouldn't to me. Who knows the dudes's mind of course, but you spend all that time building something up and you are close

Stick with Frank Wilson - he'd be cheap, stable, the players love him, and he'd a Louisiana Football legend.

Find an elite OC and we ride... I'm aware of his lack of success his last two head couching stops, but this is a different landscape with NIL.

This program needs a leader and someone they players want to rally behind.

Lane is my #1 pick outside of the huge whales that probably won’t leave anyways. Lane is the biggest fish we can reel in.

End of the day, it feels like LSU can pluck anyone in the country outside of

Day
Smart
Lanning
Deboer
Cignetti, mega deal, also 64
Sark, who will leave for the NFL

I'd rather Will Klein or Glenn Schumann.

Joe Brady is my pipe dream.

This is a really great, and easy way to send LSU into the gutter for 30 years. Wilson was a disaster at UTSA, and you’re talking about giving him the keys to one of the elites.

Remember when Texas hired a&m’s baseball coach during the National Championship series? I could see Lane doing something similar during the lead up to the playoffs. Lane wants to win a ring more than anything and he doesn’t have the horses to do that at Ole Miss.

He would excite our fans. Put butts in seats and it would be fun to watch our tigers.

I absolutely can’t stand to watch LSU right now.

He can always bring players with him. Chambliss could potentially transfer to LSU.

I mean you are talking about Wilson at UTSA. He has no recruiting ties to San Antonio or Texas. Who runs southeastern Louisiana tho?

Not saying thats the way to go, but the Louisiana recruits would probably flock to an LSU ran Frank Wilson. And he dont have to call plays on offense or defense. Just get the kids in here. Let the coordinators do their jobs.

Yes you’re right, but end of the day he still went
19-29 at UTSA of all places. There are plenty of coaches out there who have actually succeeded at smaller schools, and LSU won’t give them the time of day.

In your scenario you’re also relying on Wilson making 2 great coordinator hires every time he needs to. That’s a lot tougher than a guy like Lane who has the offense taken care of. Wilson is not a serious option for LSU. Sure he’s a Louisiana legend, and a recruiting guru, but look no further than the RB’s the last 3-4 seasons. Absolutely zero development in his position room. Handing him the house key would be a disaster.

The main transfer portal window for college football is set to be
January 2-16, 2026. After this period, players on teams competing in the College Football Playoff national championship game will have an additional five-day window to enter the portal, from January 20-24, 2026, after their season concludes. Exceptions for head coaching changes will allow a player to enter the portal for 15 days after the new coach is hired.

I don't want to go full conspiracy, but LSU did hire a lot of Ole Miss recruiting staff this past offseason, which I'm guessing was Austin Thomas' call... who came from Ole Miss as well.

Idk, probably nothing, but just something to watch.

He couldn't win at McNeese. Stop with this madness.

LSU would be a re-tread for Kiffin. I don't want that.
