In February I emailed my Senator Tommy Tuberville asking him would daylight savings time finally end as he and President Trump had talked about. He emailed me back ( his staff ) saying that he was working with Senator Rick Scott and others with The Sunshine Protection Act to permanently end daylight savings time. Looks like it's stalled in the house. My question is why? What democrats and republicans are holding this up.

Trump was asked about that not too long after the time sprung forward this year and said it was a 50/50 issue and probably won't change anything because of it.

It's always the House. Permanent DST passed in the Senate a few years back, I think 99-0. Fails in the House every time. Either way. So, there is someone lobbying for the twice a year clock switch.

I don't know how anyone is making money off this switch bullshite, but someone obviously is, or they wouldn't be lobbying so hard to maintain the status quo.

It is one of those issues where the majority of people on all sides of the political spectrum agree on something. Which means it will never pass.

But what does it accomplish? The OG explanation is dumb enough as it is.

Doctors!!

Health Effects of Daylight Saving Time

The health effects of daylight saving time (DST) are significant and primarily stem from the disruption of circadian rhythms caused by the springtime shift forward, which results in less morning light and greater evening light exposure This misalignment between the body's internal clock and the external environment leads to sleep deprivation, fatigue, and a range of adverse health outcomes The transition to DST is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular events, including heart attacks and strokes, with studies reporting a 24% increase in heart attack rates on the Monday following the time change and an eight percent rise in ischemic strokes These risks are particularly pronounced for individuals with pre-existing conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, or a history of heart disease

In addition to cardiovascular issues, the shift is linked to a higher incidence of traffic accidents, with research indicating a 6% increase in fatal crashes during the week after the spring transition Workplace safety is also compromised, with an average of 3.6 more injuries reported on the Monday following the change Mental health is affected as well, with evidence suggesting increased risks of mood disorders, suicide, and fatal overdoses in the days after the time change Sleep disruption is a key factor, with studies showing that teens lose an average of over two hours of sleep in the week following the shift, and many adults experience temporary insomnia

The disruption extends beyond the immediate aftermath, with research indicating that the shift in light exposure can negatively impact health for nearly eight months due to the delayed alignment of the biological clock with natural light cycles This chronic misalignment has been associated with long-term risks such as metabolic syndrome, obesity, and depression The American Academy of Sleep Medicine, the Sleep Research Society, and other medical organizations have concluded that the seasonal time changes pose significant public health and safety risks, advocating for the elimination of DST in favor of permanent standard time, which they argue is better aligned with human circadian biology

We tried permanent DST 50 years ago and it was a disaster.

It died in the Senate last year if I recall.

That bill is not seeking to end Daylight Savings Time. Just the opposite.

It is annoying when people get it wrong because there is a disagreement on whether we should make standard time permanent, daylight savings permanent, or keep it as is.

I do remember going to class in the dark.

I wish South Alabama could go the Eastern time zone, too much daylight wasted in the morning in the summer for sure and I don't think pushing an hour back would get kids going to school in the dark in winter

No clue, other than businesses that operate outdoors and need light (farmers, etc)

They both want to attach it to bigger bills packed with pork. That's always been the issue and the reason for delay.

If they'd just move it to the front as a stand-alone proposal, it would pass immediately. But that, unfortunately, is not how Congress operates.

Is that the bill to end the goobermint's un-acknowledged, illegal, non-stop program of saturated us with toxic chemtrail white-outs of our (once) very blue skies?

Naah, nobody in DC cares a whit about that.
