Met Sumrall at an outing he took his staff on before last season. His coaching staff raved about him and after talking with him for ten minutes I said he’s the real deal. Definitely, the anti Brian Kelly, very personable and he had me fired up just talking about Tulane. I would welcome him with open arms.

His short 2 yr Troy tenure was impressive, but Fritz built Tulane. Its not like he took over a dumpster fire there

yeah, but how much was Tulane raided after Fritz left? How much has he used the portal to rebuild his roster?

He hasn’t wrecked it either, and it’s an easy program to wreck if you are in over your head.

I guess we should be rooting for Tulane to drop a game in order to keep this nice and clean.

The biggest obstacle to Sumrall would be Greenies in the playoffs (also likely the biggest obstacle to hiring Kiffin, but OM is almost certainly in at this point).

Tulane are only 4.5 point favourites this weekend when they take the pitch at UTSA. If they lose a heartbreaker they're done and this could be over by December.

He lost Mensah unexpectedly and kept on rolling. Impressive. I also watched an interview with him last night and really liked his demeanour and passion.

True. I can only assume he will be getting a good look unless something goes south.

You'd know more than me. iirc they lost their great qb to Duke and brought a lot of players in. Winning at a second school is impressive.

I promise you it wasn't unexpected. They thought he was headed to Wisconsin long before Duke backed up the Brinks truck. Sumrall is my top choice.

Tulane could easily lose 3 of its next 4 games. Would be interesting to see if LSU/others pump the brakes on him if that happens

If Ole Miss shits the bed bad enough to miss the playoffs with what they have left and what's on the line, I would run from Kiffin. If he is at all serious about moving on from OM, this is a job interview for where ever he wants to go. Its also a total choke job if they lose two games. Hell, if he even loses one game before the post season it would raise doubts of his ability to close.

Yeah I just realized that OM almost certainly isn't going to the SECCG even with one loss.

The only way they could miss playoffs would be 3 losses which is impossible without SECCG.

I don't see how LSU could afford to wait that long for someone who seems as flaky as Lane (he's my dream coach btw - that's not an insult).

For the powers that be at LSU, having Sumrall or Brohm (on a relatively cheap deal) would be far better than waiting for a 60/40 chance to woo Lane on a monster deal and then having him snub you.

In this day and age, I don't think you are waiting per se. You could have a deal in principle with Kiffin tomorrow and negotiate thru his agent without having to fly all over the place leaving a paper trail.

I like him too, but he needs to cut his teeth at a bigger program first.

So if Kiffen loses a couple of games and misses the playoffs he will be welcome with open arms here at LSU.That makes sense another choker.

Fritz took some darn good players with him to Houston.

Sumrall did the same to Troy. However Sumrall said that he wouldn’t entertain any transfer talks from Troy players to Tulane until after Troy’s bowl game. Was he being honest? Was he just saying that and actually trying to get players to Tulane don’t know.

However

Fritz’s staff that had been hired at Houston was still coaching at Tulane for the bowl game. They were actively recruiting players to go to Houston. Sumrall came in and had them let go.
