Geez people anyone could have done that. It’s lsu, and outside the sec there are a few pockets of blue blood programs. Jay would have taken any sec job. They gave him the most money. Now Scott is going to hire your football coach because you think he made ONE Good hire.

Woodward is great at hiring in sports that the NCAA as a whole doesn't care about.

Jay was not leaving Arizona for any job but LSU. It was his dream school

Mulkey, Clark, and a few smaller sports are doing better than they usually do, notably volleyball and soccer.

Most people on the rant could not find Arizona on a map.

Jay Johnson wasn’t on anyone’s radar when LSU offered him the job

I give SW alot of credit for the creativity and fortitude in hiring CJJ. Otherwise the mob wanted Bianco or bust.

Hadn’t he just made it to a CWS?

The same LSU program hired Smoke Laval when the league and college baseball had far fewer programs able to compete and on the heels of 5 national titles the previous decade.

Jay also was not the hottest name on the board when Mainieri got pushed out. He wasn't even on the radar for most people who were following that search. Woodward deserves a lot of credit for that hire.

If Woodward is going to stay, fine, but we need to let a committee find the next football coach.

yeah he was, not sure where he was on the list but he was definitely talked about and mentioned plenty of times. Most thought the job was going to go to Sully or Bianco.
The names that were mentioned during the search.
1. Sully
2. Vitello
3. Jay
4. Corbin
5. Bianco
6. Cliff Godwin
7. O’Connor

I don’t know that SW has to go, but I definitely want other people involved with this hire. He doesn’t need to worry about perception at all. Go get the best coach for the long run.

He had taken Arizona to the CWS twice including that year.

Like it or not, baseball and women's bb are minor sports. Football is the cash cow and Woodward cost LSU $53M (or whatever number they negotiate) and it's going to cost LSU millions more to get rid of his assistants. Woodward is definitely part of the problem at LSU.

Tonya Johnson might quietly be glad Kelly got canned. Her team is 10-11 and she is in year 4 with no real success, but the AD has other things on his mind right now...

nobody is debating this and so far this is Woodward black eye on his LSU resume. He’s 3/5 in hiring coaches but the main problem is he’s failed on the two biggest that bring in the most revenue.
