Other than being at Tulane, the guy has a great track record and experience in the SEC.

Admittedly, I haven’t watched many of his games, but I know there are people here that watch Tulane games knows…he kwas consistent at Troy.

I’ve seen him connected to Auburn, but why? He’s from Texarkana.

His coaching trend has steadily stayed the same on an upward trend.

Tell me more…

Enough with the retreads.

Coaching at a G5 school is completely different from a P5. Huge risk and probably not worth it for LSU. It would be no different from Florida hiring Napier.

He's pretty solid. He's still learning about getting his guys dialed in week after week, which is even more important in the SEC. He still isn't out the race for the playoffs, but if he does end up missing it, he would probably be the first candidate willing to jump ship. I'd imagine LSU would be looking at mostly playoff level coaches.

I need to do a dive into him tomorrow: hopefully Tulane friends can chime in.

So what.

I want someone that will work for an extension or raise. Buying out 10-15 mill is a hell of a lot better than 50

Sounds a lot like the Napier hire. Why pass on coaches that are proven winners in the P5?

I go back and forth on him, but it's not strong either way.

He has legit won every year as a HC, and he did the step up already.

I have no idea what kind of offense he prefers, and being a defensive coach, I'm leery.

He is young, though.

He may not be LSU "ready" yet, I just don't know if we can afford to let him "grow" at LSU. He's just like Napier was... good, but we can create too many "don't hire him" reasons.

His wife is from the state of Alabama. I worked with her years ago and it seems like she always wanted to be back in that state.

Edit: she went to Auburn.

Was he on the UK team during the Bluegrass Miracle?

There aren't any who project to title-contending coaches this year.

Kelly is a "proven winner P5 coach".

Franklin is a "proven winner P5 coach"

Sumrall was a head coach at one program and was successful.

Upgraded his job and is still successful.

Napier did it at just one Sun Belt school.

Tulane was built by Willie Fritz

Exactly. Fritz built that thing.

In an era of NIL and transfers, doesn’t that speak well for Sumrall?

Players transfer and most of Fritz staff left with him. Wouldn’t that be a recipe for mediocrity?

Yeah that's why I said he already did the "step up" once and was successful. Those guys project very well I believe.

Like Urban going Bowling Green to Utah. Napier skipped a level on the ladder.

I meant Sumrall. I edited. Sumrall kept Troy going and had to deal with Tulane and keeping that thing afloat.

Like I said in the previous post, not many programs stay afloat after head coach changes. Coaches and players leave in masses.

Were he still at Troy and this pre/early NIL, there would be some similarity with the Napier hire.
The circumstances are far different.
