General Motors is eliminating Apple CarPlay and Android Auto from all future vehicles – and it’s already maddening motorists.
In their place will be GM’s own built-in interface, powered by Google’s Android Automotive OS, with Barra arguing in an interview with The Verge that it will allow for “a smoother, safer, and more unified user experience.”
According to AutoBlog, “GM’s long-term goal is to turn its vehicles into ‘software-defined platforms,’ unlocking revenue from subscriptions and in-car services.”

So you’re going to be completely non-innovative and charge your customers more as a result. Got it.
Why do we keep propping up American brands?

People will go back to putting aftermarket systems in

They are trying to intertwine the actual computer with the infotainment system so that your vehicle basically won’t operate without it.
Stellantis has been trying the same thing with Jeep and it’s been bricking vehicles.when they do Uconnect updates.

My 2025 Sierra already has this and I disabled Android Auto app because it causes my phone to overheated and uses mega bandwidth. It's nothing to get wound up over. You still get Google maps and Google Assistant functionality and you can install Waze if you want. Much to do about nothing.
