I think I saw that the original story was posted here, but I couldn't find it on search. As a quick sum up: sup tragic story out of Pinson, AL where an 18 year old high schoolgirl was killed at a late night party.
The 27 year old suspect was painted as the villain and charged with 1 count of murder and 3 counts of attempted murder.
Reports now show that he was jumped prior to opening fire and his attorney is claiming he was acting in self-defense.
What do you think?

So he's a sleazeball who hits on underaged girls. A group of boys send out texts saying they're going to take care of him. They jump him. He pulls out a weapon and opens fire.

McKinney testified about his interview with an 18-year-old girl who told him she was talking with her boyfriend near his vehicle as he was getting ready to leave the party.
“They were approached by Mr. Whitehead. Upon learning that (the girl’s) boyfriend was leaving the party, he (Whitehead) said something to the effect of ‘I could steal your girl’ or ‘I could take your girl,’” McKinney said.
The girl told the detective that throughout the course of the party, Whitehead offered her open beers which she saw as a “red flag.”
“She didn’t know what his intentions were with an open beer,” McKinney said. “She advised that she told him she would accept a closed beer just to get him to leave her alone.”
The girl told the detective she was standing near the bonfire, and Whitehead placed his hand around her hip.
“She said she kind of pushed him off and immediately began to be upset and cry,” McKinney testified.
quote:
McKinney said she relayed the information to her boyfriend, who had already left the bonfire, and in turn he asked a couple of guys at the party to address the situation.
A portion of what happened that night was captured on cell phone videos.
McKinney said there were a number of individuals in close proximity to Whitehead and, with profanity, they asked him what he said to the teen girl.
The argument ensued and turned into a physical altercation.
quote:
A video, one of several shown to the judge and being circulated on social media, showed Whitehead walking away followed by a group of young men.
Whitehead is hit and pushed to the ground and several people are on top of him hitting him, the video showed.
quote:
“You also see Ms. Mills,” he said. “It appears she’s trying to break up the fight.”
Whitehead, the detective said, then retrieved a gun from his back waistband. Still on the ground, McKinney said, Whitehead extends the gun straight out and appears to be sitting up.
quote:
“While Mr. Whitehead is on the ground being punched, there is a group of people surrounding him, right?” Presley said. “It was a crowd of people around him.”
Presley noted that Whitehead had been repeatedly struck in the head.
quote:
Whitehead’s attorney argued this was more than a fist fight.
“Mr. Whitehead was being attacked by multiple people on the ground surrounded by a group of people,” Presley said. “That’s more than a simple fist fight between two people.”
“I think the video shows he was acting in self-defense,” Presley said, “attempting to get away.”

Why is a 27 year old hanging out with high schoolers and packing?

Because he's a scumbag loser who shouldn't be on the planet anymore.
But legally, I'm curious where this goes. Alabama has a stand your ground law.

It was a high school party. Apparently mixed ages (from 16-22 with a 27 year old). The story has been that he was hitting on the high school aged girls. But you're right--the article says he was making comments to an 18 year old.

"I don't like this guy, therefore he shouldn't be allowed to defend himself."
Someone definitely FAFO here, big time. I don't think we agree on who that person is.

Guy sounds like a real piece of shite... however, if you've been knocked to the ground and multiple people are beating you then you have every right to defend yourself.

Why didn’t the boyfriend go back to the party and whip this dudes arse one on one, instead of asking a bunch of friends to do it for him?

Wonder how the law is written as far as innocent bystanders being shot. Details of the circumstances will be huge. Shooting wildly into a crowd probably wouldn’t be protected conduct, if that was the case.

This guy should really try to stay in jail and then prison… it’s the safest place for him.

Which is zero defense to the murder charge. Unless they are stupid enough to claim this tiny cheerleader was some kind of threat to him.
And it sounds like they need to tack on a charge relating to providing alcohol to minors.

If that mug shot is from this arrest he doesn't look that beat up.
