The Giants are set to hire Tony Vitello as their next manager per multiple sources including @MLBNetwork's @JonHeyman.

Vitello is set to become the first college coach to serve as a Major League manager without any prior coaching experience at the professional level.

Like I said last week when this started to leak:

This is an interesting hire and I think his antics are going to wear really thin pretty quick but we'll definitely see.

This move is pretty damn surprising to see in my opinion. What a precedent.

I have no idea what to expect but it will be interesting to see.

So what are the current rules for the UT players right now? What are their options? Can they transfer in January and be eligible somewhere else this season?

I bet he does better than most think he will. There’s talent there. Not like it’s the Pirates or White Sox.

College baseball was never this relevant… now it is and Tony V is the biggest non-LSU reason why. The whole SEC should be rooting for him now

I don’t blame him for wanting to play Dave Roberts instead of Jay Johnson. He’ll still be the best manager in the dugout on Opening Night when the Yankees come to town.
