What does the OB think of this used boat.

Live in Dallas now, and son wants to fish Lake Lewisville. This boat looks like a decent compromise between fishing setup and cruising around with the wife and dogs. Thoughts on the brand? The price? What to look out for?
The dealer does a full maintenance update upon purchase, a 6 month warranty, and they take you out for a test drive also.
Thanks in advance!

No trolling motor, not a fishing boat. Good looking boat deaux.

Looks in good shape and looks like a new O/B on the back. That being said if I had to buy a family boat for fishing lakes I’d go pontoon. They have made the newer ones way more fishable.

That looks miserable to fish out of
I would buy a $10k small aluminum fishing boat and $15k party barge before spending $25k on that

Look at a Robalo 206 Cayman. Bayboats seem to be the best compromise boats. Get a fishing boat with seating, not a runabout with some fishing stuff added.

Almost unfishable in my opinion. Just my opinion but a pontoon boat or a true deck boat are better fishing platforms than most fish and skis. It is ideal for pulling tubes and cruising but way to much stuff for lines to get around and too little room for fishing tackle, again in my opinion. If you are talking about a couple of rods and reels and box of worms and a float it'd do that but trying to stay on offshore structure or fish a shoreline with a trolling motor on that hull would drive me insane.
Its also very similar in design to the various deck boats with molded extended caps instead of pontoon style rails and ALL of them are unsafe in a head sea of 1 foot or so....common on larger COE of lakes and, if memory serves, Lake Lewisville is a sizeable body of water. Those deck boats...in fact almost all deck boats...are notorious for taking waves over the bow in a head sea. It is fun with pontoon style rails unless its cold....it is damned dangerous in one with a sole below the water line and nowhere for the water to go. That can be mitigated with some boat handling experience but for a person without a lot of experience with a young family along it would probably mean an end to fun days afloat when you ship300 gallons of water over the bow from another boats wake or a 1 foot swell with a wavelength shorter than the water line of the hull which could possibly have the stern higher than the bow when the next wave is approached. The hull wont sink but it can definitely fill to the top of the gunwales leaving you and yours with the basic benefit of a boat to begin with which is to keep you person and the water separate to the extent possible.

This is sound advice. There are some dual console boats built on center console hulls that bridge the gap between family cruiser and a fishable hull. The design of the hull in question is not of those, it is a walk through windshield run about with a pedestal seat in front and some rod holders. It would drive me insane trying to fish out of it. It is also close to one of the deck boats with a sole below the waterline and an extended cap

8 year old motor on boat, and generally figure on replacing at ten years. A new replacement motor on that boat would cost you 20 grand installed. How do they write a 10 loan on an 8 year old boat?

That engine is good for another 2500 hours. Its the last thing I'd be worried about.

Yep 200 freshwater hours is nothing. That motor will likely last 25+ years in freshwater with avg use.
OP you need to go walk it. An 18 ft boat like that isn’t very big. It could definitely do what you said, but also as said you really need a trolling motor it almost a necessity. The advice on a pontoon is very solid, I have no clue on pontoon prices though.

Agreed- those boats just do everything bad. Vs one thing good.
Motor is not an issue at all.
2 boat solution is great.
Party barge is good for dual use.
Big center console bay boat is great for everything also.

He's on a lake in dallas. No reason to get a huge heavy center console IMO.
They make fish n ski's that would be good for OP also. My father in law used to have one and it was just fine. Not as ideal as a bass boat but better for fishing hard than a pontoon.

I live in central TX now too. The lakes here get nasty. Lots of TX wind, no cover. A 20-21'pathfinder, blue wave etc. Works great for most casual people.
I fish shallow, duck hunt, and run big lake as much as I can. So doesn't work for my needs. But man a 20'skeeter CC or nauti etc. Would be a fine lake rig here.

Yeah, don’t buy that boat. Get a 19-20 ft bay boat. There should be plenty of blue wave and nautic stars in your area for the same price as the boat you posted.

My advice on buying a bay boat (those are perfect for impoundments like many of the Texas lakes) is to decide what size you think will fit your storage needs and go one size bigger.

There are two types of family boats
Pontoon and dedicated wake boat.
There are a 1 million types of fishing boats.
None of the 1million a two toes of boats are like the one you linked.
I’d get a fishing boat plus wine, a bean bag and role up float for the wife.
