re: Pine straw mulch
Posted by JoieDeVivre on 2/16/26 at 11:08 pm to sosaysmorvant
I never use pine straw for that reason, it's pretty for a while and then it fades and there's nothing you can do about it.
I use pine bark mulch. Not the big nuggets.
Use a garden rake once in the Spring and once in the Fall to mix it up and pull some weeds. Looks like new. And you can add a new thin layer on top to dress it up.
You can rake it as often as you want. Quickly freshen it up for that weekend gathering.

JB, I want to go where you went.
Planning our first and only trip to Italy and really want to do the southern area. And I don't want to drive either.
I feel like you and could omit Venice with no problem.
Will do Rome and then hit Florence and the Amalfi Coast.
Probably not Sicily just because of time. Planning on 10 days or so.
I feel like we need a group travel plan just because we are not experienced European travels but we don't want a large group. And just like you said we would like to visit some smaller towns that aren't as touristy.
The wife and I are approaching 70 years old, in good health, but want a more relaxed visit. We're watching videos on YouTube and see people in Rome standing in line for 1 or 2 hours at sites, not doing that.
We are planning to go in May 2027.
Any advice you could offer would be appreciated.

Have they ever asked a woman like this is she is a woman?
If the answer is yes then how do you know you're a woman?

We'd be flying from New Orleans (MSY).
We can travel on any day and considering a stay of 9 or 10 nights.

Damn, I want to see it all!
I'm 70 years old and this will most likely be our one and only trip there.
I'm budgeting $5000 pp excluding air.
Trying to prioritize where to go and what to see.
Will travel in May of 2027.
Want to avoid large tour groups.

Wow that sounds very interesting.
I'm having a hard time deciding between something like you're saying or doing a Rome, Florence, Amalfi Coast tour.
It's our first trip abroad.

Southern Italy Travel Planner ?

Been doing a lot of AI research on tour operators and options for smaller groups. We're interested in areas around the Amalfi coast and Puglia.
Want to sample the food and wine in some not so touristy places.
Any travel agents in Baton Rouge that might specialize in this area?
Or would we be okay with options like Firebird, Rick Steve's or a smaller boutique operator?

re: besame new orleans, anyone been?

Yep. Been several times enroute to the Seanger.
A limited menu but we've enjoyed everything we had.
I looked at the menu online before going and and wasn't accurate.
A little noisy.
Go!
And be sure to make a reservation.

I've been using Suspend for years with great results.
However, in my rental I occasionally have a roach problem.
Having an issue now with the German roaches which are hard to eliminate.
Anyone had this problem and would recommend a business?

One game I'll never forget.
Funny how they let us in with bags of oranges.
And then the FOG. Unbelievable.
We were in the lower endzone and couldn't see the upper deck.
