Which are the better restuarants in or near Breaux Bridge? I did a search under this forum and nothing comes up.

Sidney Mae. Little big cup is not that great. If you want to go that area go to cafe Josephine.

St John Restaurant in St Martinville
Good variety and choices.
Crab cakes were excellent.
Pork chops grilled with a glaze was spot on.
Enjoyed the grilled vegetables and also the Crème Brûlée

What about Buck & Johnny's? I used to go there when it was Cafe Des Amis and it was great, but I haven't been since the name change.

Edit: nvm, Cafe Sydnie Mae is in the old Cafe Des Amis location. My mistake.

I ate there once years ago, great experience. What is it about eating off a Styrofoam plate that raises my expectations?

Poches, This is the answer. 3 folks can eat off of two plates. Great portions, more than fair prices!

Thanks for all the recommendations. Will probably get to try several of them in time. Went to St. John's Restuarant in St. Martinvile this Thurs. It was really good. Had the best crab cakes I've ever had in "Louisiana" as a 78 yr. old native. Only crab cakes I've had that were better than St. John's Restaurant were Maryland crab cakes in the better restuarants of the Baltimore and Chesapeake Bay area. St. John's dinner rolls with "Stein cane syrup infused butter" are fantastic. I could have eaten a half dozen of those. I will go back again!

To the best of my knowledge, Buck and Johnny's is in a former automobile dealership building. Cafe Des Amis, in the former old funeral home, is now the home of Tante Marie's restaurant. I've dined at that restaurant back when it was Cafe Des Amis, but have not been since it's Tante Marie's. For anyone not familiar with the term "Tante", it's the Cajun word for "Aunt".

Looks like Cafe Sydnie Mae is in the old Cafe Des Amis spot.

This is what is says on Facebook

Cafe Des Amis closed and became Cafe Sydney Mae a few years ago. I am sad to advise that Dickie Breaux owner of Cafe Des Amis passed a week ago.
