Thanks for you service, Greenbean. I can't tolerate Flomax and some of it's similar meds. Since I had problems with Flomax and because of my history with kidney stones my urologist wanted to try reducing the size of my prostate to help stones pass more freely in the future, so he prescribed Finasteride which somehow very gradually shrinks the prostate. Though my PSA number.was never that high, my PSA numbers have gradually decreased 60% over the last 2 and a half years!

In addition to treating an enlarged prostate, Finasteride is commonly prescribed to help with male pattern baldness. My barber said I won't have to worry about going bald!

The negative side: You may experience a decreased libido and volume of ejaculate! At age 79, I was already experiencing that before taking Finasteride from natural aging issues, but my libido and volume issue still work enough to satisfy my needs!!! And I no long have had problems with kidney stones!!!!!
Thanks for the feedback. I was hoping to treat my disabled friend to a fun humous type day, but the conditions apparently will not be suitable. I'm thinking of taking him to the WW2 museum next weekend. It won't be a humorous type event, but should be interesting, and we can spend the day together without disability movement impediments.
I emailed them twice before calling 4 times. They must have too many priorities to take care of other than dealing with email and phone calls.

After viewing a short video of last year's event and reading some responses in this forum, I think I will drop trying to treat a handicapped friend to a day at the Ren. Fest. I'm thankful that I didn't tell him in advance that I would like to take him there. I think it might be an easier outing to try and take him to the WW2 Museum in N. O. for an outing.
Thanks for helping me put the event in a time period perspective. Unfortunately I have no horses or wagon.

Do you know if there is any handicapped parking available near the entrsnce?

I hate to be the messenger of disappointing news, but Germany just announced that they are canceling all their Christmas Markets this year because of the high cost involved in trying to secure the different sites.
I've tried calling the phone number listed on La. Renaissance Fest website. It never gets answered.

Does anyone know if there is handicapped parking available near the entrance?

Are there any mobility scooters or golf carts available to rent there?

If scooters or golf cart rentals are not available for rent at the festival grounds, then would such conveyances be allowed if you would bring your own?

Are the crowds so thick that it would make it difficult to use such mobility vehicles?
To the best of my knowledge, Buck and Johnny's is in a former automobile dealership building. Cafe Des Amis, in the former old funeral home, is now the home of Tante Marie's restaurant. I've dined at that restaurant back when it was Cafe Des Amis, but have not been since it's Tante Marie's. For anyone not familiar with the term "Tante", it's the Cajun word for "Aunt".
Thanks for all the recommendations. Will probably get to try several of them in time. Went to St. John's Restuarant in St. Martinvile this Thurs. It was really good. Had the best crab cakes I've ever had in "Louisiana" as a 78 yr. old native. Only crab cakes I've had that were better than St. John's Restaurant were Maryland crab cakes in the better restuarants of the Baltimore and Chesapeake Bay area. St. John's dinner rolls with "Stein cane syrup infused butter" are fantastic. I could have eaten a half dozen of those. I will go back again!
As far as I am aware, they're at least not brewing beer for public sales. However, they do roast and sell some really good coffee blends. I have been buying their coffee exclusively for roughly 12-15 years now. Folks that I have given Mystic Monk coffee to for Christmas always enjoy it and some start buying it thereafter.
Which are the better restuarants in or near Breaux Bridge? I did a search under this forum and nothing comes up.

I acquired some typical souvenirs from many places that are no where to be found anymore in my home. However, 3 things from long ago have stayed with me through many decades regardless of where I have lived.: A beautiful mountain stream weathered, somewhat large, rock picked up from a stream while descending Mt. Le Conte in the Smokies Mountains. An ivy plant cutting from Esrnest Hemingway's courtyard in Key West that I have kept alive as a normal house plant for 35 years now. And to my delight, a twisted Hickory walking stick that I used countless times hiking in the Appalachian, Smokies, Rockies, Tetons, Yellowstone, Yosemite, and British Columbia in my younger days. This Moses type staff has now become my preferred walking aid that I use whenever I need to walk some distance on uneven terrain even in So. La. due to some balance issues that now affect me in Senior life! Even with it's weathered look from some of the scratches acquired mountain hiking over the years, I still get folks wanting to see it up close and complementing me about it when I use in public. These are among the types of souvenirs that can become treasures.

re: Need advice on fake flowers

If the pine needles will be dropping really thick all the time, even fake flowers or plants won't look real good unless you continually remove the pine needles from the planter or the ground bed established for them.

I used to have 13 really mature and tall pine trees in my yard. It took nearly an hour each week just to pick up the pine cones and branches so I could mow the grass. Then mowing the grass entailed cutting and mulching the fallen pine needles under the trees over multiple passes of the lawn mower just to get rid of the accumulation each week.

I eventually gave up and had all the pine trees cut down and replaced them with crepe myrtles. Best money I ever spent on my yard!
Acknowledging that each individual's cataract conditions are likely not to be identical, the choice of implanting insurance covered lenses vs. premium lenses deserves carefull consideration.

For example my brother chose the expensive premium lenses vs. the no patient cost ones Medicare would cover 8 years ago. He had improved vision, but was having some difficulty seeing some things as well as I did with my "progressive lenses eye glasses" before I had cataract surgery. 6 years ago, when I agreed to have cataract surgery, I chose to just use the implant lenses that would be covered fully by Medicare due to my brother's experience. The technology of lenses available has been improving overtime and I have had 20/20 vision using the Medicare covered lenses with no need for glasses at all! I suspect the implant lenses technology has continued to improve over time and that includes those covered by employer insurance and also via Medicare coverage.

I suspect that the skill of one's ophthalmologist doing the surgery can affect the best lense options chosen to correct one's eye conditions as well as their skill as a eye surgeon in performing the procedure.

I use a panic button that's part of my home security system. It has options for activating and deactivating the system from the yard and driveway as you leave it or return home. A button to call for medical assistance only, and a button to call parties in your response tree: yourself 1st to verify your need or if it was an accidental punch of the button, then if you are unable to answer it calls family, neighbors, friends you designated in the call tree, then if no response available from those parties in your response tree, it calls 911. It's actually a freebie that's available with the home monitoring security system. Just had to request that as an additional feature of the security system and pay for the panic button, one time cost.

As a season ticket holder for 41 years, I have found that neither the current iteration of the fan survey as well as previous ones have ever made any meaningful difference as far as changes being made over the seasons. I do continue to fill them out in hopes that improvements will be made some year before I'm watching from the big sky box in the great beyond!

It would seem that food concession choices and quality would be one of the easiest to implement finance wise. I find that both quality and choices for food concessions were actually a little better in the Old Box!
I was trying to fly back to Baton Rouge from Tulsa, Oklahoma that day. I only made it to Dallas, Texas. The connecting flight equipment from a West Coast airport never even departed. Air traffic was virtually shut down by the volcanic ash dispursed over most areas West of Texas and Oklahoma. I wasn't able to fly out of Dallas until the next morning due to all the grounded planes creating equipment shortages..

10 years after the erruption I visited Mt. St. Helen's shortly after a paved road had been built up to Johnson Ridge, 4 miles from the collapsed crater. It was mind blowing how many trees were down lying like toothpicks for miles as one drives to Johnson Ridge. At that Observatory there is a solid rock face wall with all types of debris forcefully embed in the rock wall 4 miles from the crater. The devastation created in that erruption is one of the most fascinating things I've ever seen.
In addition to what has been posted already by others, I found visiting Boys Town Village, home to approximately 400 Boys and Girls in Omaha interesting. It will give your children an idea of what less fortunate kids are faced with. Thankfully times have changed to where the children there get housed in suburban type homes with trained married coupes providing family style care versus the old dormitory style housing. Boys Town Village has its own fire dept and post office, and other vocational opportunities for the children living there to get work experiences.

Lincoln, Nebraska is only about 55 miles away and home to the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers and the state capitol. During the Bertman CWS years we visited the university and with their stadium gates wide open and with no one around we were able to walk right onto the 50 yard line center field of the stadium. I doubt that security remains that lax in this era. Their state capitol building in Lincoln is a similar skyscraper style building like the La. Capitol Bldg. Biggest surprise was that their legislature is a uncameral one - a single body vs the traditional representative and senate bodies.

Don't miss dinning in some of the good steak restaurants in Omaha!
I use a Sonicare for AM brushing and Oral B for PM brushing. Get the benefit of the style differences. Like them both.
