Republican U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy has $9.5 million in campaign funds as he gears up for his re-election bid. Two of Cassidy’s opponents, state Senator Blake Miguez and Louisiana Treasurer John Fleming report having $2 million dollars on hand. Political analyst Bernie Pinsonat says Cassidy continues to do well in getting donors to support his campaign.
“That’s a lot of money, $10 million. I think, based on this race of though, the challengers will need at least a minimum $3million, probably closer to $5 million or $6 million,” Pinsonat said.
Cassidy’s other two challengers in the Republican party primary, PSC member Eric Skrmetta and St. Tammany Parish councilwoman Kathy Seiden have yet to report their donations for the third quarter. Pinsonat says having such a lead when it comes to campaign donations does not guarantee victory, but it’s a significant factor.
“A lot of details yet to emerge from this campaign, but having $10 million and the ability to raise more, of course, is a big deal for Cassidy, Pinsonat noted.
Cassidy has drawn several well-known challengers because he voted in 2021 to impeach Donald Trump. But Pinsonat says that vote has not weakened Cassidy’s campaign war chest.
“There’s some who suggest he’s in trouble, and he has all these problems and whatever, but we won’t find out anything till we start seeing polling on the race in probably the early part of next year,” Pinsonat said.

Very curious where all this leads. There is no way an incumbent with $10 Million is just going to leave all that money in his campaign and quietly go home if he loses the closed party primary.

George soros is really shelling out the big bucks

He’s going to run as an Independent if he doesn’t win the Republican Primary.

I'd have voted for JBE in a millisecond before I'd vote for Cassidy.
In fact, IF Cassidy gets the nod, I'll vote for whomever the Dem is.

This might be a bridge too far. Let's remember JBE actually took your 1st amendment rights away during COVID. I have little doubt Cassidy would have trended in that direction but we know of JBE's actions. I understand your sentiment. I just wouldn't vote.

I'm not voting for Cassidy. Between the other two, who does the PT board want?

I would vote for anyone over JBE given what he did to us during his governorship I guess he may run against Landry for governor

Don't care. Won't vote for him.

The sad thing is this was told to me by a friend of mine who's fairly high up and connected in the Louisiana Republican Party and can't stand Bill Cassidy.

Which is why we must get rid of the 17th Amendment. The US Senators know longer answer to the elected representatives of their state but to their campaign donors.

He's a piece of shite if he ever accepted money from the likes of Soros and if he does, he needs to run as a Democrat or get the frick out of the race.
