I haven’t had instant coffee since I was a kid. I was pretty surprised at the results here. I might have to try it again.

Our team at the Filter US wanted to know if instant coffee truly deserved its less-than-favorable reputation. So we enlisted the help of Jonathan Deutsch and Rachel Sherman from the Drexel Food Lab, who conducted a series of blind taste tests with 84 people to find the best instant coffee. After testing 24 varieties, they narrowed them down to the best, and then tested those against drip coffees in a second test. To our collective shock, 77% of participants favored instant coffee over drip. And among the instant coffees, it wasn’t the swanky third-wave options that prevailed.

Just did a 4 day back pack trip with my sons. I usually just rough it to save weight but I wanted coffee this trip.

Went on Amazon and got a box Death Wish instant, it had good reviews. The coffee was the highlight of the day. Really good.

Give it a try instant has come a long way.

I take instant starbucks when I go backpacking. It's decent and the little individual packs are handy. But I don't see myself making the change from drip on a daily basis.

Instant coffee is garbage and only for posers.

People want everything quick and instant, but real smooth pure coffee takes time. Just like dew in the sunlight on a nice fall mornin' my comfort comes from coffee dripped one sweet drop at a time.

We drink Folgers instant and have for over 30 years. I make drip coffee in the duck blind, also Folgers. If it was a blind test, not duck blind test, instant is better. There, I said it , down vote away.

I’ve done some of Nescafé instant stuff on camping trips and during power outages. It isn’t terrible.

Having discovered a Louisiana specialty, I am firmly addicted to Cool Brew. This is convenient as my husband doesn't drinik coffee so I can have as much or as little good coffee whenever I want it with NO waste. In summer iced coffee from Cool Brew is wonderful.

Best coffee is brewed in the sock of a pot of boiling water on the back of a shrimp boat.

Yep. That's an old thing people used to do, basically steep an entire pound of coffee in about 1 gallon of cold water overnight and end up with a concentrated liquid that was called coffee essence. Then, use a teaspoon of that liquid in hot water and end up with pretty darn good coffee. Not at all like traditional instant coffee.
