Crazy everyone wants to waste a high draft pick on a qb again

When the smart, new trend is to recycle highly drafted QBs that failed on shite organizations surrounded with no talent.
Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, Geno, and now you can add Daniel Jones and Mac Jones to the list. Wentz, who I also said we should have signed in the offseason for the vet min, also put up over a 100 qb rating in 2 of his 3 starts this year.
Cost those teams nothing to add them. Sometimes it takes QBs longer for the game to slow down, good coaching and the right supporting cast to prosper.

So give Tyler and Ratt the time to develop too.

I'm in the "try every singe QB option until you find your guy" camp. Bring in high draft picks, low draft picks, free agent castoffs and even RV campers who can throw balls over mountains. I don't care. This is THE most critical position on any team, so you do whatever it takes to find the right player. End of story.

Two Things are clear.
Spencer Rattler is developing into a solid quarterback that both needs to improve in a few areas and has elite skills in other areas.
Two: Shough is probably a hall of fame future that Kellen is not ready to put the league on notice yet. He likely wants to build Rattler's trade value as high as possible.

Saints already dialed that number with Crab Legs Winston. Just doesn’t always work out with these guys.

1: I fully agree. He is showing a ton of promise
2: interesting theory, and I am on board with this is this is the case

I didn’t want Shough, could have filled one of the massive holes all over with #40. I preferred to see what Ratt gives you and bring in a vet to compete for cheap if he falters. Two that fit that criteria were Wentz and Pickett. But Ratt should have been given a year with starting calibur talent to see what he is.
Yea now, there’s no point in bringing in any qb. I hope Shough stays glued to the bench just so we don’t draft a qb early next year. Maybe he improves more after sitting a year like Ratt.

They’re still highly drafted, as are all the highly drafted guys tearing up the league. If you trust your staff to rehab a guy than you should your staff to nail an early pick

If we have a top 5 pick you have to go for a high impact player on the defensive front. Someone who can play run and get after the QB. That will free up the rest of our defense. I like the Bain guy from Miami.
I would like to see us bring in another quarterback to compete and push the other two. Look for a guy like Mac Jones or equivalent who wants to take a prove it deal and resurrect their career. Or you take a flyer in the draft in the middle rounds. Sorsby from Cincinnati has really good film. Green from Arkansas is a freak talent.

Let's just say all thing go perfectly this upcoming draft and we stick with Rattler/Shough. We somehow knock it out with getting Bain (DE), Brazzell (WR), and Slaughter (OG) in the first 3 rounds.
Assuming the appropriate retires, we'd need to then find the replacements for LB (Davis). There are some improvements we'd still need overall, but it would be a step closer to being a more well rounded team.

If you draft a QB high, he's more likely to be a "bust" than not.
If you want a franchise QB, you're far more likely to get that thru Draft over FA or Trades. That's why Arizona drafted a QB in the first 2 years in a row. Its far more likely to hit in a 1st rounder than any other way.
Turns out, there are only a handful of guys that are franchise QBs and selecting one is incredibly difficult
If they think they have "the guy" with their first pick, they should pick him. If not, take best available. to your point, Mickey hasn't done a lot to help the situation roster-wise. They need to cut the fat on vets on big contracts.

it's crazy how Carolina had two bites at that apple and didn't even realize it with Baker and Sam Darnold.
And now it's kind of still up in the air if Bryce Young is that guy? I mean they've been handing it to their new bell cow RB Rico Dowdle and pretty much riding him to victory lately.

Build through the trenches and secondary.

In what round are your odds better at finding a starting qb than the first?

Look, I don’t think Rattler will ever be a top 10 QB. But I think he could be 12-15 and you don’t get there unless you give him time.
The bigger issue is the lack of playmakers. We need them at WR, TE, LB, EDG, CB. We need to put more talent around Rattler
