Does regionality really make a difference in a head coach being a good fit for a job? With PSU now open, there is discussion that BK would be a better fit there than here, simply because he is from the Northeast. Other candidates that are in the discussion, such as Cignetti and Rhule, are said to be a good fit because of where they came from and coach now. Lashlee is a good ole Southern boy and he's mentioned, but not seriously since he's "not from the North". Look at Orgeron and what he did here, and yes, he did catch lightning in a bottle, but I am almost certain BK would have screwed that up. LOL....

It’s a significantly overblown talking point

Either you can coach or you can’t

Paul Dietzel, Bill Arnsparger, Gerry DiNardo (I know), Les Miles (I know, I know) , Nick Saban and Coach Brian Kelly have fared pretty well for the most part. Got is overrated.

Having a local coach mattered even more 20 years ago when you had to recruit your players, and back then it didn't matter a lick. Now that players are getting paid, it matters even less, so still no.

BK has felt like a square peg in a round hole since he got here.

We had the number one offense in the country with JD and our defense was atrocious.

Now we have a defense again that is certainly good enough for a deep postseason run but the offense is now putrid.

Would be thrilled if Penn State hired him away but thats a fairy tale. Not going to happen.

I don't think it has any bearing on coaches organizing the team, the assistants, and the players to play the games.

But I DO think it matters to other the parts of a head coach's job - relationship with the university. the donors, boosters, supporters of the program. recruiting in the area of the country where the university is. support of the fanbase.

Saban is from a small town in West Virginia and the greatest football coach of all time.

Does it matter as much as it did? I think likely not, but it still matters, at least in the south. Listen to some of the recruiting stories from SEC coaches, you’re often recruiting in southern black culture, where you have to go into grandmas house and not eating what she cooked is very offensive and shite like that

A 60 something year old white dude from Vermont can’t relate to that

Sure, if you take any random 60 year old white dude from Vermont off the street.

But a seasoned, successful coach who has been in the game for 35 years with a wide breadth of experience absolutely will.

For Penn State it's more important than most places. They need someone who understands the need to cover up rampant pedophilia.

based on what

Paul Dietzel - Ohio
Mike Archer - Pennsylvania
Gerry Dinardo - New York
Nick Saban - West Virginia
Les Miles - Ohio
Brian Kelly- Massachusetts

These guys represent of the 6 of the last 11 head coaches LSU has had. 3 of those guys won a national title. I really need for someone to define what a "good fit" is.

Josh Heupel is from South Dakota
Mike Elko is from New Jersey
Steve Sarkisian is from California
Lane Kiffin is from California
Brent Venables is from Kansas
Kalen Deboer is from South Dakota

None of that shite matters anymore, even in the SEC.

Mama only cares how much money you're offering, not whether you know how to cook collards the right way.

As I said, it’s less important, but I do think it still matters. And most of those played and/or cut their teeth in the South. BK spent his entire career in the mid west and northeast and i think it shows. Culture still matters no matter how much the nerds want to dismiss it

The good "fit" may come into play if you are choosing between 2 candidates of equal stature. But if you are comparing a gut like Rhule to some "
up and comer" from Pennsylvania, Rhule will get the job every time.

And for the post that talked about fit with the fanbase, university, donors, boosters...; that could be a consideration if there are family ties (USC's Beamer with VTech), or former alumnus.

But what does that have to do with "fit"?

The reality is if BK had won the NC in 2023 and had LSU ranked in the top 5 right now, EVERYONE would say he is a great "fit".

"Fit" only comes up when things are going poorly because it gives the home fanbase more of a reason to not like the coach...when the ONLY reason they don't like him is unsatisfactory results. IF it does matter in today's game, it would be in the fundraising aspect. People generally like to give money to people they like.

And he would probably understand my point. Everyone is a good "fit" if they are winning...which goes to show "fit" is overrated...if not entirely irrelevant
