Some customers of the shipping service say that packages sent to the US from abroad are getting held up at the carrier's facilities for weeks and, in some cases, are being subjected to higher-than-expected tariffs and customs brokerage fees, according to tracking information. Eight people whom Business Insider spoke to said that they received updates indicating they might never get their packages at all.

"The package is undeliverable and is in the process of being disposed of according to the local guidelines," reads one tracking update sent to several UPS customers Business Insider spoke with and posted widely on a subreddit for UPS users.

From personal experience, they are in over their head. I ordered a vinyl record from Germany recently. "Informational material" like films, records, CDs, etc are supposed to be exempt from tariffs. Regardless, after delivery I received a bill in the mail from UPS for tariff charges. I emailed them to dispute the charges and received an automated response.

It's October and they haven't finished responding to dispute emails from June yet. That's an insane backlog.

I've read some accounts where people are ordering things internationally like perfumes and getting charged $2k-$4k after UPS clearing the tariffs.

Considering the admistration yo-yoing the tarriffs it is not surprise that people are confused and implementation is delayed. It is not like a switch can be turned on overnight, no matter how many people think it can be.

Combine that with US customs are going to be slowed due to the shutdown, we now have a shite storm.

Not all services can proceed without interruption, however. Documentation reviews, duty assessments and compliance checks slow as non-essential staff are furloughed. Imports that require extra scrutiny – including pharmaceuticals, perishables and other regulated goods – can face longer dwell times.

Your story has nothing to do with the story you posted. Nothing.

The article is about how UPS is backlogged and packages are held up for weeks, pending additional information or payments. My anecdote is about delays related to the same changes, but in the dispute resolution process.

...It could be that you're just a fricking idiot.

Story is about packages being destroyed. Zero to do with your charge of a package you received. So, GFY loser. It’s not about you. Sorry you were unable to make it about you. Now go cry a river bitch.

I read it. This is the title of your thread: “UPS is a cluster - now destroying customer packages”. Again, your personal story is about some charges you’re disputing. But carry on….dig deeper, looking for a way out.

I think you mean you read the title only and decided to flap your cocksucker.

The first sentence in my quote from the article is:
quote:

You didn't even read the first sentence, much less follow the provided link and read the entire article.

Drunk this early on a Sunday?

Amazing how every time I see a complaint about a once great company I google “who are the major shareholders” and it’s always vanguard, blackrock, and other PE groups.

I order overseas all the time for clients and have vendors that do the same. I haven't run into any issues. Maybe that will change, but so far so good.

I don't think you understand why that is..

They are the major shareholder of every publicly traded company because they are the managers of the world's largest index funds.

Blackrock and vanguard are not the actual owners, the majority of citizens who invest in their funds are.

It's total chaos for the last 2 months. The tariffs seem to have simply been decreed without much direction or logistics.

What you say about vinyl records is true. According to the law which wasn't changed "Informational material" (like anything eligible for Media Mail in the US) is exempt from tariffs.

I have a record shop and we have simply discontinued both selling online and ordering records from overseas. 1/3 were getting charged tariffs, 1/3 were not, 1/3 were held up with daily emails from various delivery services around the country/world not having any idea what to do.

It seems no person is actually working for the government to organize this massive tariff BS.

It's horrible for so many American small businesses. I'm sure the big corporate conglomerates are having no problem though.

Just another way government chooses the big guy winning over the little guy.

UPS top leadership absolutely does not care about the customer anymore. Talk to your local UPS driver and they will more than likely tell you. They are now holding peoples packages who live in rural areas and running some of these routes only 3 days a week per a driver I know. It's called rural deferral.
