SAIP: Pope Leo condemns climate change critics

quote:
Pope Leo XIV has hit out at those who minimise the "increasingly evident" impact of rising temperatures in his first major statement on climate change. Reiterating the words of his predecessor Pope Francis, the new pontiff lambasted critics who "ridicule those who speak of global warming". The Pope's remarks, at a speech in Castel Gondolfo near Rome, will be seen as an implied criticism of US President Donald Trump, who last month called climate change a "con". Pope Leo also called for greater action from citizens the world over on climate change, saying there was no room for indifference or resignation.
quote:
In Wednesday's speech, the Pope called for people all over the world to put increased pressure on politicians. Citizens need to take an active role in political decisions, he said, as "only then will it be possible to mitigate the damage done to the environment". The Pope said that each of us will have to answer a question from God. "God will ask us if we have cultivated and cared for the world that he created for the benefit of all and for future generations, and if we have taken care of our brothers and sisters - what will be our answer, my dear friends?"

I’m Catholic and this seems a little bit much.

Why does this guy feel the need to literally pontificate on these issues? Sad.

That’s why I started this thread. It’s bizarre. This is the third time or more in a couple weeks he has harped on this.

Me too.
The "climate change" debate falls under science.
The pope's authority is to teach definitively on matters of morality and faith, not science.
Now I agree that we should be good stewards of God's creation. That's morally proper.
But we also have to be weary of evil that leverages morality for corrupt objectives. This is happening a lot in "climate science" community and most of the people in that community I believe are unaware their morality is being manipulated.

His blessing of that block of ice was really fricking stupid.

How much energy does Popeville and the Pope sanctuaries use?

I’m open to protecting our planet. I’m not open to handing more power to people who hate humanity and use environmentalism as a tool to consolidate power to the state.
There is a difference and I wish the Pope would speak up about this.

Do they want to be comfortable in Europe and be able to grow more crops with a longer growing season? Or do they want to wear overstuffed clothing to ward off the bone chilling cold?

Plants grow bigger Mr Pope. More food for people and animals. Question Mr Pope. How much Vatican money did yall invest in clean energy? A lot?

VI. There is no other Head of the Church but the Lord Jesus Christ: nor can the Pope of Rome, in any sense be head thereof; but is that Antichrist, that man of sin and son of perdition, that exalteth himself in the Church against Christ, and all that is called God

As a Catholic, Im quite certain that the church is not an authority on Climate science.
What I do know 100% is that climate change is used as a tool to implement all kinds of political things that I don’t support and that I think are bad for society.
It makes me pretty uncomfortable to see the church wade into these waters.

I'm familiar with the US Govt's efforts to protect the environment and I can assure the Pope that we are doing the right things in trying to take care of the planet.

What a stupid thing for the leader of a Church to be concerning himself over.

The US Govt is doing that. We are good, I can assure the Pope.

The pope should not be using politically charged "science" terms like "climate change". He can talk about the moral principle of caring for God's creation without using "climate change".

Your headline really overstates his comments.
The good news is the Pope has opinions and those opinions don’t impact Catholics. We don’t have to hang on every word or every interview.
If the Pope speaks within the very limited infallibility granted to the successor of Peter to bind and loose, sure let’s get worked up.
Y'all drive yourselves crazy.

It begs the question of why he is doing it.
It makes me consider if the a church is losing its way.
