Nuss currently through 5 games has a better QBR than John Mateer

I tend to think QBR, while perhaps often a reductive, is a pretty indicator of what QBs are playing. Nuss currently through 5 games has a better QBR than John Mateer (who lead heisman race until his injury) does through 4. Currently ranked at 26th nationally. WAY ahead of other highly touted QBs like Drew Allar, Arch Manning, DJ Lagway, Cade Klubnik, etc. LSU is far from the only team with a QB regression problem and honestly one of the least severe cases of it. If Nuss really is injured, maybe the can step up his game a little bit more. And even if not, with our defense a top 25 QB should win us most games. The sky is not falling, even if I too have been pretty vocal about the disappointment of watching Nuss this year

It’s a fake stat espn invented to promote Tebow in the NFL. Tebow used to get higher QBR grades than Aaron Rodgers.

To be fair, his completion percentage isn’t bad at all if he has been hurt. The issue is his inability to complete a pass over 8 yards. He is off this year, there is no doubt about that. Let’s hope he gets it together because we know he can sling it.

Succinct way to put it.
A healthy Nuss has an amazing arm.
Nuss TD Throw to Malik vs UGA '22
Nuss 45 Yd Throw vs UGA '22 SECCG
When he's healthy, he can stretch the field vertically and horizontally and puts a lot of pressure on defenses. Of recent, not so much.

Nuss has made very good decision all year, minus like 2 single throws that resulted in absolutely retarded picks. He just cant put enough arm on the ball, hes clearly limited by injury.

What about the throws into triple coverage just last week alone? Those were terrible decisions

Yeah that should tell you all you need to know about the QBR. What do your eyes show you? The offense is hot garbage. QBR is a BS system.

Nuss's QBR doesn't make sense to me either. I always thought it tied pretty closely with offensive efficiency with 3rd down success, red zone TD%, and explosive plays responsible for being heavily weighted.
But that doesn't line up this year.

QBR doesn’t mean shite it’s a fake rating. And all of those guys you mentioned are playing horrible this year so being above them doesn’t mean Nuss isn’t also playing horrible.

IF whatever injury he has is so significant that it's causing LSU to have one of the worst offenses in college football (currently ranked 108 in total offense; 103 in scoring offense) then why is he continuing to play?
And if resting during a bye week was somehow the magic elixir for healing the injury, then why did he practice/play vs SLU when he could have sat that week to get in better health for the OM game?
Either his injury is not as limiting as some want to believe and the poor performance of the offense is attributable to something else (cough, cough, a bad OC), or LSU's coaching staff is a collection of morons for (a) continuing to play a physically limited player or (b) not taking advantage of an opportunity to get him healthy before a stretch of 7 SEC games.

I’d say it’s more than just a couple but overall you’re correct.

eh. You are not "stretching the filed" with a QB that cant/wont run. And he cant/wont run. Just drop back 7 guys and nobody will be open.

Maybe for a single game or two. Rogers had bad games like everyone else. Tebow never had a single season even close to Rogers in the same season. But QBR is suspect because ESPN will not divulge how it is calculated.
Tebow
2010 - 56.0
2011 - 38.6
2012 - 27.6
Rogers
2010 - 69.6
2011 - 83.8
2012 - 71.3

The big example which shed light on QBR was game 5 in the 2011 season. Tebow went 4 for 10 for 79 yards passing and a TD with 6 rushes fir 38 yards and another TD and had a higher QBR than Rogers who went 26 for 39 for 296 yards and 2 TDs.

You can stretch the defense with your arm as a QB. Nuss certainly needs to run more but he needs to be able to throw the ball down the field more importantly.

It’s this, and the offensive line.

So much for the ratings...

And the idiotic interceptions.

Do you think that BK mismanaged his injury? Maybe he should have sat for SELU.

The interceptions would be understandable if his passing production wouldn’t be so shitty. Through 5 games last year he had 17 touchdowns with 5 interceptions compared to 8 touchdowns and 4 interceptions this year.
