Q. But why was it cancelled? (8 episodes, $254 MILLION dollars.) A. Bigots, obviously

Confirmed: Disney Burned $254 Million on Weinstein Protégé’s ‘The Acolyte’

Disney’s Star Wars spinoff The Acolyte has now been confirmed to have cost a whopping $254 million for just one season, after the project was cancelled following poor audience reception. The final number, reported by journalist Jonah J. Campbell, excluded tax credits and marketing costs, so Disney’s total spending was likely even higher. This aligns with our original estimates from last year, but it’s now been confirmed.

Series creator Leslye Headland had previously claimed the budget was $170 million, but that figure reflected spending only through September 2023 and is now shown to have been incomplete.

This is the series which made Kathleen Kennedy cry when she saw the pitch for the show.

Is there any wonder why Disney Star Wars is as dead as its Galactic Starcruiser Hotel?

The only decent part of the entire series was the tease of three sith lord but they botched that. I also liked the main villain but overall it was really the worst Star Wars. And there have been stinkers.

I guess i just don't get it. How can you mess up star wars? Just take one of the existing hundreds of eu stories and adapt it. What did they do?

Oh let's have another Death Star but this time build it in a planet. Oh let's have Palpatine come back. Though let's have him secretly have hundreds of Star Destroyers each with planet killing lasers. Who built them?
Let's have Luke abs Leia have an adventure with Obi Wan that changes all cannon.
Then they finally bring Thrawn to the screen and they make him stupid.

Years ago when Phantom menance came out i camped out for tickets. That was the first hit on my Fandom. Then the last jedi made it to where i don't even care to see these in theaters.

Star wars is doing bad because they aren't trying to tell good syories they are trying to send messages. Which we the viewers respond poorly to.

And i was so excited to stay at the Star Wars hotel until I realized we child stay twice as long at the Yacht Club resort for half the price and walk to Epcot so we did that.
$4000 for three nights was crazy.

I hate to admit it, but there's a version of this show which possibly could have been good. But LH was so hell bent on self inserting and making it about her estranged sister, they wasted a massive budget and some really good actors.

Oh, and then in MID SEASON of the massively successful 8 episodes, the star actress decided to drop a dis-track and mocked SW fans who were TRYING to give her show a chance.

In my mind Indiana Jones was a trilogy from the 80s. The two new ones are fan fiction.

Acolyte was watched by nobody, sold no subscriptions, and was immediately cancelled in disgrace.

But it didn’t.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny grossed approximately $384 million worldwide against a budget of over $300 million, resulting in a box office loss for Disney. The film was considered a commercial disappointment, with reports stating Disney lost over $130 million, making it one of the most expensive film failures in history.

I did too, and that one big fight scene was honestly really good.

But other than that the show was weak and forgettable at best.

Tv shows don't generate box office. Every show is "all loss."

They burned more on Andor. It was brilliant, and it was not watched by many. I get to have seen and enjoyed it, and I didn't lose any money in the process.

Stop trying to push the idea that enjoyment of a show or movie should correlate with its budget.

Jesus Christ. Patently false.

TV shows derive revenue from advertisers

Streaming platforms derive it from subscriptions. You draw in and maintain through programming. The Acolyte drew in no new subscribers, and nobody watched it, really.

Nearly all engagement on the show was negative.

So it didn't move the needle.

Hence, "all loss"
