Dude just did his job defending his city-state, protecting his brother and family. A great warrior who was defeated by a literal unbeatable fighter with impenetrable armour.

He’s now remembered as the guy who lost to Achilles

Are we talking about Hector, the same Hector that is going to be running three Honda Civics with Spoon engines, and on top of that, he just went into Harry's and bought three T66 turbos with NOS, and a Motec exhaust system?

That's his great grandson, Hector IV.

Or he could have done the right thing and told his brother to STFU and send the girl back.

I disagree. Homer really seems to try to pose the question of what qualities make an excellent man. Hector seems to be the juxtaposition to Achilles who represents the brutal warrior, who sat on the sidelines like a spoiled brat, until he finally decides to enter the fray. Meanwhile, you see moments of Hector as a loving father, a courageous leader and eventual martyr for his polis. He's my favorite character in the Iliad.

And he was backstabbed by his cowardly brother, Paris.

This is kind of my point. Despite all of these qualities, everyone knows and loves Achilles, even great warriors like Alexander the Great revere him. Meanwhile Hector is mostly remembered as the guy who lost to Achilles

Hector was considered a great warrior in his own right and his battle with Achilles was an inevitable clash of two titans.

I guess you could say Achilles was Bama and Hector was UGA.
