Kelly: ‘Van Buren is beginning to command the offense like a starter, not a backup’

If Van Buren is now commanding the offense like a starting QB, then you’d think there should be no reason not to make a change if Nuss is still struggling and the offense needs a spark. I hope this is a preface to Kelly pulling the trigger if it comes to that.
quote:

He’s beginning to command the offense the way I’d like a starter to command it, not a backup. I want him to go in there with confidence, with communication and do that. I thought he did a very good job when he was given the reins last week. He’s got a live arm, he’s got some elusiveness, and he’s got some grittiness to him that you can see in game situations.

Sounds like Kelly is preparing to make the switch soon by saying that type of stuff out loud

Ohhhh starting to, huh. He just came alive this last week, but he wasnt ready the week before that. Hes just been going through the motions at practice all off season and season?

Absolutely no excuses for not giving him a shot against ole miss.

I doubt this was necessarily BK's intention, but I think this statement will be additional fuel to the fire with the fanbase if Nuss struggles against SC and doesn't get pulled. With that being said, I think Nuss will play well this week because he knows he needs to.

I’d say the leash for Nuss is probably 2 bad drives.

A couple 3&outs to start the game vs SC and we might see MVB come in.

I’m hoping Nuss lights it up & we’re up 14-0, but that’s just hoping for the best

The problem with MVB has been learning the playbook.

Progress in that area is a really good sign.

maybe

Or, he may have some new info on Nuss' injury and is preparing everyone for it...

Or,, he is trying to motivate Nuss...

Or, this is just coachspeak to a question that was directly asked about MVB...

Or, he think this is an opportunity to get SC to prepare for two QBs with different styles

It's impossible to know

MVB isn't playing unless Nuss can't walk off the field.

LSU must have the most complicated system on Earth.

Hell we put people out there and comment that they don’t know what in the hell they are doing

I like this theory. But hopefully it’s also true that he’s looking better.

You don’t say this stuff out loud unless you are ready

Haven’t learned how to interpret “coach speak” yet?

Hint: They all do it, why give ammo to your competitors.

If Nuss plays like arse in the first half again and it’s a close game I think BK knows he has no choice but to make the change. This is just him setting it up

Nuss will get the first half for sure but after that he’s out

Maybe. I think it's more likely that he's just trying to say that MVB is becoming more comfortable in the offense. But who knows, maybe you're right.
