after next year without anything dumb

we currently have -14M with 42 rostered for next season but should be able to get under without doing anything too dumb. (save 7M by cutting Ruiz, 10M for Jordan, 5M for Cooks, 8M for Davis etc. won't need to do these but if we can restructure without doing anything crazy)

in 2027 we have $146M free with 34 players rostered

This will be the key. As long as Loomis doesn’t chase “the” missing piece, 2026 could be the last year of cap hell with 2027 being the true start of the rebuild.

Will the cap go up next year or is that already built in to the calculation?

IMO, they are not in rebuild mode now. Still going through the demo mode trying to gut the big contracts and get to bare bones, while still fielding a team

No they aren’t. I said this a few times last week.

If we don’t sign Reid and Cooks, and not re-sign Young and JJ, we would have saved ourselves almost 40 million.
And got pretty good comp picks back.

We’d have our head above water once this year was up.

We’re out.

2026 will clear some residual bad contract extension but the Saint will have a little more money to spend.

2027 they will be FA players on the buying market.

Oh, I did not mean to disagree with the resident GM batting 1.000 with all of his decisions. I will sit back and wait for you to tell me when I am allowed to have an opinion

We also will carry close to 20 million in space into next year. We are already out of cap hell.

FYI, OTC has that number at $8.9M, and spotrac has it at $11.7M.

I do not know if OTC includes the rollover, but they have the Saints being over the cap in 2026 by $14.2M. Spotrac does include that figure and has them still over the cap by $18.3M.

And this is with only 38 players under contract for next year. If accurate, they still need to clear out between $5M to $18M before they begin filling the roster. Much better position than in prior years but still has some work to do.

I’m just saying this was the perfect year to tear it down to the studs and get out of the red once and for all. Loomis added over 40 million yearly with those contracts.

I’d rather just eat shite this year knowing afterward, we’d finally be on an even playing field with majority of other teams.

I have no desire to go back and forth on this with you. I see the moves, and in many instances the lack thereof, the front office has made since Carr retired as a beacon of hope. You see things differently than others and also like to interject yourself into posts as if people are directing the comments to you, and then plug anything you may have gotten right in the past as some sort of validation that your other thoughts must be correct because you were right about ....
