Nuss' tenure at LSU will go down as one of the weirdest that I can remember

High four star recruit, arrives as a freshman in 2021, sits until 2024 where he starts for the first time. Has a good first year (with a lot of bad moments, but it was a growing process) and becomes a fan-favorite. Opens 2025 as a Heisman favorite and leading title contender, does fine in week one, falls apart after that. Kelly says he's injured, but he isn't after Ole Miss, but he is again less than a week later. I don't understand any of this, I'm starting to wonder if he's truly regressed from last year. I think it's clear he has some kind of ailment but at this point I have no idea what's wrong with him. If he's regressed or is hurt to the point he can't play at a high level, he needs to bench himself until he gets right, because our HC surely isn't going to do it for him.

2nd most yards ever for an LSU QB last season, but now he can’t throw over 200 yards

Awarded #18 & voted team captain, but now everyone is criticizing his work ethic after a loss.

That’s not what was said

Immediately after the Ole Miss game Kelly said he was not injured

Then yesterday he said he was still recovering

Yes, that's what was said

We can't possibly know his psyche but if he had any sense, he would bench himself instead of trotting himself out there to embarrass himself. He's self-sabotaging himself and doing a disservice to the rest of the team by playing if he is in fact hurt.

There is now 15+ games of film. Opposing DCs fully know the strengths and weaknesses. They also know the tendencies of Sloan's offense and, combined, how to stop both Nuss and LSU.

Ole Miss was the worst rushing defense in the SEC and they flat out dared LSU to run the ball at them, knowing Sloan and Nuss won't (I say Nuss, because I fully believe he is changing some run plays into pass plays at the line). Sloan's offense has rarely fooled or created confusion for opposing defenses. They have a pretty good idea of what's coming.

If you go back to 2019 you saw Brady using formations, motions, and personnel to create matchups and confusion. Sloan doesn't do much of that. Defenses now know that if you sit back in zone LSU can't hurt you with the run and Nussmeier will throw at least 2-3 balls a game that you can intercept. And, if LSU does move the ball on you, they are often unable to score TDs in the redzone.

Burrow and Brady were a match made in heaven

Nuss and Sloan are as predictable as LSU fans bitching about concessions at Tiger Stadium

If weird = disaster, then you’re right. Two months ago Nuss was the odds on favorite to win the Heismann, he’s now 16th.

I hate it for him because I love his arm talent and think he *could* be a good NFL QB, but it's incredibly hard to win in the modern era with a QB like Nuss. He flat out REFUSES, healthy or not, to run when it's wide open.

I think it's as simple as this - he's had some pain that has bothered and limited him. That pain has affected his throwing mechanics, and his lack of trust in his mechanics has altered his decision making. Because it doesn't appear we are about to make any changes, all we can really do is hope that the Bye is what he needs to get rid of that pain, find confidence again with his mechanics (which were really good in 2024), and start playing at or close to the level of a Heisman QB. As bad as his deep throws were at Ole Miss, he did a lot in the short to intermediate game that looked like the version of Nuss we like to see.

Man the average ranter knows what Sloan's calling when we watch on tv. Thats this offense's biggest problem! Nuss isn't to blame. He's also obviously hurt if you look at last year vs. this year.

Not a very rememberable tenure to be honest. Going 8-4 last year didn't do him any favors. Unless he leads us to a deep playoff run this year, when we look back on the BK era (although Nuss predates that) JD5 will be much more rememberable QB.

Nuss probably came across tigerdroppings. Unfortunately, he'll never be the same again.

Nuss is a millionaire. Why can’t press ask him directly what’s going on? Why not press him when he says “I’m not talking about being injured” or whatever BS he’s spewing.

Nuss comes off as regretting he didn’t go pro after last season and coasting this season so he can get a shot at the pros.

Idk

well, he did play in the 2021 season...he came in for Max Johnson in the Arkansas game (threw a bad INT)...then played in 2022 SECCG when Jayden got hurt (and played great).

His play on the field has been dog shite all year dude. If you want to defend that then go ahead but anybody with any sense can see that Nuss isnt getting it done. Not even close.

When the BK era ends with his firing, putting all his eggs in the Nuss basket will be seen as his biggest mistake.

LMAO well Nuss just royally screwed that up then. With his little “coasting” act he just cost himself a potential 1st rd pick to maybe a 4th or 5th rd at best.
