IMO, pretty level-headed article that touches on everything we have been talking about with Rattler.

I'm fine with letting Rattler play tlll the by week then making a change.

I also would not be upset of they gave the ball to Shough starting this week.

It's quite possible that the staff will be evaluating both of these guys to see if they can be the back up to the eventual starter.

Considering we burned a premium pick on Shough bc Kellen Moore loved him, we need to give Shough at least an 8-10 game tryout. If he's not above average immediately (he's an old, mature QB), then we should have enough tape and common sense to cut bait and use our 1st Rd pick on a QB next season. However, we need to hire someone outside the current building to help Loomis and Kellen properly scout the next QB class. I don't want them swinging and missing on QB in back to back drafts.

Everyone was spot on with RUIZ being out.
I suspect the claims on the article are Warrented.

quote:

This group is made for taking the top off opposing defenses and making plays deep.

quote:

Yes, Rattler isn't putting the ball in harm's way as often. He's also not making the throws that NFL quarterbacks need to make to put his team in position to win games.

quote:

Tyler Shough may not yield better results than Spencer Rattler. In fact, the immediate results may even be worse as the rookie adjusts to NFL defenses. Rattler hasn't necessarily played poorly enough to be benched. He also hasn't played well enough to be the difference in winning three close games. Rattler has played safe football and is a highly competitive player.

These are all strong points.

But the questions remains.
Have we seen Rattler at his best?
Will he continue to develope?
Can he be more accurate?

It reads like a fan wrote it.

It's time for Shough not because the Saints will definitely be better...it's time because your investment in Shough needs to happen for Shough and the long term future of the team.

Every week that goes by is now a week that Shough will not get to improve and a week the Saints will lose in an evaluation.

Unless Rattler was performing at a HIGH level, it shouldn't even be a part of the equation.

I could see some consideration to have Shough start @Car week 10, then they have the bye week to tear apart his film.

3 weeks in a row he's thrown behind the receiver on would be touchdowns if he put it where it needed to be.

That's the frustration

I'm not saying to bench the guy, but he's shown nothing special IMO. Bring in Shough and see what he has. What's the worse that can happen, lose another game?

How many games has he played in now, 10? How much more do you need? Let's see what Shough can do.

I am ready for a change. 10 games worth of film on Rattler and not much improvement. Has he ever thrown a deep touchdown pass? Do the saints every go deep this year? It is time. Need to say if they will need to draft a qb high next draft.

If you bring in Shough to be the starting QB, where are you putting Rattler if not the bench?

IMO, the more film on Rattler, the worse he is going to look. D Coordinators aren't even playing 2 deep on him anymore, as there is no reason to defend the deep middle against him. I saw film breakdown that SF and Seattle figured out his favorite "deep" throw was the 15 yard out and had players squatting on it. He damn near threw 3 picks on that throw.

He is who he is at this point. Nothing wrong with it. Not everyone is cut out to be a starter.

Rat is a slightly better version of Trevor Simein

I actually think Trevor was the better QB. Rattler may have him in accuracy now, but Trevor threw more TDs in his 6 games than Rattler has in his career.

In 6 games, Trevor Seimian threw for 1154 yards, 57.4% completion, 11 TDs and 3 INTs, with a QBR of 88.4. He also won 2 of those 6 games.

Wrong. He's definitely improved from last year, protecting the ball and making plays with his legs.

Yes. Last year he did multiple times.

No we haven't. So what's going on with that? You can say Rattler can't see the field but I'm not buying it. He had plenty of throws over 20yds last year. This year none? Wtf?

I just looked it up. You are right yet it has not resulted in points. It is time for a change. This team is going nowhere with Rattler or Shough this year. Time to see if they need to use the first round high draft pick on a QB.
